Grab the reins and embark on an exciting journey as a Teamster at Fort Edmonton Park. Nestled in the scenic Edmonton River Valley, you will be a key member of the Animal Welfare team that ensure the safe and successful operation of our animal husbandry program and ride operations. You will succeed if you have strong livestock management and horsemanship skills, can engage well with members of the public and work well as part of a team. What you will do:
- Work with draft horses, light horses and ponies to operate pony rides and horse-drawn wagon rides within a historical context
- Groom, clean, feed, and care for horses and other livestock to ensure they are well cared for and in optimal health. This may include cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry
- Upkeep and maintenance of animal pens, facilities and equipment in alignment with departmental practices
- Transport and trailering of animals to and from animal health appointments and/or pasture spaces
- Supporting the Animal Welfare Coordinator in routine scheduling of animal health appointments such as veterinary and farrier care and ensuring all animal health protocols are being followed
- Assisting in animal care documentation procedures, including development and upkeep of these documents
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to a respectful and safety-oriented team culture by updating training, setting safe work practices and providing direction to individuals and other units
- Works in tandem with the Animal Welfare Coordinator in training and driving young horses for use in the park
- Perform other related duties as required
