As a Strategic Coordinator within the Building Great Neighbourhoods Branch in the Department of Integrated Infrastructure Services, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Edmonton. You'll be a key member of our leadership team, working directly with the Branch Manager and collaborating with the Deputy City Manager's Office to develop and implement strategies that address the diverse needs of our citizens. Engaged in confidential and complex work that directly supports the Branch Manager, you will work on assignments with financial, economic, political and corporate sensitivities.

Your work will directly contribute to enhancing the lives of Edmontonians. Be a part of neighbourhood renewal and open spaces projects that improve our city's infrastructure. 

What will you do?

  • Define overall strategic plans, measures, and metrics to align with Branch goals
  • Provide leadership, direction, and coordination of strategic planning functions, including:
    • Budget program overviews and reporting
    • Branch business plans
    • Short and long-term Branch organizational planning
    • Policy setting
    • Briefings, reports and presentations
  • Act as a Branch representative on City Committees and Branch teams
  • Conduct environmental scans to identify trends and opportunities to ensure relevancy, efficiency, and effectiveness of Branch operations
  • Research, develop, implement, and manage strategic initiatives for the Branch and on behalf of the Branch Manager
  • Provide leadership, research, analysis, monitoring, and recommendations on a wide variety of issues primarily at the Branch level, with the potential for involvement at the Corporate level
  • Review Council, Committee, and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) reports for content and completeness, editing and providing direction to Branch Leadership Team and staff in their preparation; reports may be in response to Mayor/Councillor motions or inquiries,and/or to public requests for Council's input or direction
  • Oversee, edit and/or write  Council, Committee, and ELT reports/memos, consolidating and prioritizing report content from a variety of sources to ensure the final product is clear, concise, and adheres to professional standards
  • Ability to write clear and concise briefing notes, along with the ability to take multiple perspectives into account
  • Identify strategic issues that may affect the Branch and independently research, provide recommendations, and implement solutions on behalf of the Branch Manager
  • Organize and coordinate Branch initiatives and participate in the development of Branch vision, mission, values strategies, long-term planning, goals and action plans
  • Act as the primary consultant and advisor in terms of problem formulation, statement of objectives, solution strategies, idea generation, solution implementation, and evaluation of outcomes
  • Lead, establish and exemplify the desired culture in support of Corporate Cultural Commitments, and Branch vision and mission
  • Provide leadership, direction and guidance to Branch Leadership, administrative, project, and communication support team members, and drive team behaviours
  • Monitor Branch employee engagement and implement action plans as necessary
