What will you do? 

  • Lead and participate in multi-stakeholder project teams (i.e. IIS, SWP, AM, etc) to execute capital projects
  • Manage the planning and design and/or delivery for solid waste related industrial projects at the EWMC, including operational/strategic initiatives, resource, and financial management
  • Review, prepare, and professionally authenticate as appropriate feasibility studies, master plans, functional programs and design reports, drawings and specifications, as well as operation and maintenance reports and manuals
  • Manage engineering/technical works associated with projects through in-house or consultant team, and ensure proper authentication & validation practice in accordance with APEGA requirements, City of Edmonton's PPMP and SOPs
  • Develop and steward relationships that support the success of the projects
  • Develop and implement robust public/stakeholder engagement processes and activities, working in collaboration with Communications & Engagement (C&E)
  • Develop and implement communication plans, in collaboration with C&E
  • Respond to and/or manage responses to all project inquiries in accordance with established processes
  • Document all project activities in accordance with the Project Management methodology, City policies, processes and procedures, as well as regulatory and legislative requirements
  • Prepare requests for proposals and tenders with a focus on the development of technical requirements and scope of work
  • Participate in the selection of contractors and consultants (i.e. Evaluation Committee) by reviewing and evaluating proposals, with a focus on the mechanical design components of the proposals
  • Manage the procurement and contract processes, including tender documents, review of proposals/bids, and making recommendations for acceptance
  • Provide engineering and technical support to the major waste processing facilities at the EWMC (IPTF, MRF, ADF), including applying engineering principles to support the optimization of processing equipment with the goal of increasing production, resolving processing problems, and supporting maintenance needs, all within given cost and time constraints
  • Apply engineering principles to review various process equipment and systems, assess performance, and provide options for improvement such as capital projects or minor operational changes
  • Conduct research and feasibility studies of potential projects regarding waste processing
  • Test existing processing equipment (i.e. screens, shredders, etc) to determine current performance and possible improvements
  • Ensure the project abides by any applicable City of Edmonton Occupational Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines
  • Perform additional related duties as required
