If you are a highly motivated team player and self-starter with a keen interest in labour relations, consider joining the City of Edmonton as a Negotiations and Policy Consultant! This position reports to a Senior Negotiator and is part of a team of labour relations professionals. Using a strategic mindset, combined with your in-depth technical labour relations knowledge and experience, you will support collective bargaining activities and develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies related to a wide array of labour and employment matters. A systems thinking approach and keen political awareness are key to ensuring your success in this role. Success will also be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way.

What will you do?

  • Support and provide input to the collective bargaining activities on behalf of the City, including:
    • research and preparation, building the mandate, forming proposals, negotiations, documenting
    • bargaining sessions, record keeping, mediation and arbitration where applicable, contingency
    • planning, education, and implementation for one or more collective bargaining tables
  • Research and support the development of labour relations and organizational policy in response to changes in organizational direction, agreements with unions, establishment of new case law, and legislative updates
  • Support the development and delivery of labour relations education for clients
  • Support the development and implementation of policies, tools and resources to ensure that the Labour Relations team, and in turn the clients we serve, are making sound and defensible labour relations decisions. This work may include, for example, developing collective agreement interpretation guidance documents
  • Support the City's labour relations response to new and emerging issues that have multi-union impacts
  • Support the development and execution of strategies for resolution of issues that have wide-spread impacts and implications
  • Engage and consult with City and union partners on labour relations policy and program matters as needed
  • Provide support related to policy grievances, collective bargaining agreement interpretations and Labour Relations Board matters
  • Perform other related duties as required
