Reporting to the Deputy City Manager, Community Services, the Fire Chief will play a crucial role in the department's mandate to “connect to protect” by strategizing the delivery of fire rescue services to over 1 million Edmontonians. Your primary mission will be to foster a work culture that values innovation, positivity, engagement and collaboration while demonstrating strong leadership abilities, political acumen and relationship skills.

What will you do?

• Lead an empowered team, cultivating a dynamic and welcoming environment that encourages individual strengths and collective success
• Develop and lead a visionary strategy and roadmap for delivering fire prevention and emergency response programs and services in support of, and consistent with, City Council and the department's vision
• Provide senior level guidance and advice to the corporation related to fire rescue services and Office of Emergency Management
• Lead and manage change, build organizational talent and capacity, and achieve organizational outcomes
• Create and support an inclusive, proactive, innovative, positive and progressive culture in EFRS
• Foster a supportive environment that values and invests in the professional growth and aspirations of employees
• Equip staff with the necessary competencies, resources, and empowerment to effectively carry out their responsibilities
• Create, leverage and maintain relationships necessary to advance the corporate and EFRS strategy, including those with the Executive Leadership Team, City Council, unions, Edmontonians, industry leaders, business partners and staff
• Foster integration across the corporation to ensure thorough and seamless delivery of programs and services
• Utilize sound business judgment and critical thinking when allocating resources. Develop and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the budget and cost elements intrinsic to the EFRS business model
