As the Director of Transit Fleet Maintenance, you will be responsible for leading a team dedicated to ensuring the safety and upkeep of Edmonton's transit fleet. This includes overseeing a fleet of over 950 urban transit buses, managing everything from cleaning and daily servicing to major repairs and refurbishments. 

Reporting to the Branch Manager of Fleet and Facility Services, you will provide leadership to a team of approximately 365 staff across six city garage facilities. Your role is crucial in ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources, achieved through organizational effectiveness and a high degree of employee engagement.

What will you do?

  • Actively participate in the development of strategies for the Branch and in alignment with the City's Service Innovation and Performance Branch, Council, the City Plan and the budget
  • Continue the Refurbishment Strategy which extends the life cycle of a bus from 12 years to 20 years by replacing the engine and updating the interior and exterior of buses
  • Lead operations and maintenance to ensure ridership of Edmonton Transit Service have a reliable, convenient, safe and accessible service
  • Provide relevant business data to guide decision making to meet the goals of key stakeholders 
  • Anticipate business opportunities, influence policy, planning and initiatives, and foster a culture of accountability through performance measurement 
  • Integrate multi-disciplinary teams to work collaboratively with stakeholders supporting corporate priorities 
  • Build new and innovative collaborative partnerships with external agencies, orders of government, community organizations, and internal departments and branches
