The vision for Integrated Infrastructure Services is to inspire trust among citizens and Council in our commitment and ability to deliver quality infrastructure. As the Director, Facility Planning and Design, you have a unique opportunity to help shape the future of our city's infrastructure. You will lead a diverse portfolio and be accountable for the capital planning of all of the City's facility infrastructure, and civic workspaces.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, Infrastructure Planning and Design, you will translate strategic objectives and outcomes into tangible project plans and designs. Your leadership skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external partners will be invaluable in this role.

You will provide leadership and strategic management to a team responsible for four key areas: project intake, project planning, facility design, and workspace coordination. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in our city and leave a lasting legacy!

What will you do?

  • Lead a collaborative team of project managers and architects, inspiring them with purpose and vision to achieve their full potential.
  • Develop and support multi-year capital plans that align with the ongoing operations and expansion of the City.
  • Oversee a project intake system that works with a range of stakeholders to ensure the strategic needs of diverse groups will be met through projects within the planning and design pipeline.
  • Build consensus with internal and external partners in order to advance the City's strategy with respect to environmental sustainability and high quality design
  • Oversee the development of a prioritized capital growth and renewal project list and associated budgets and business cases
  • Oversee the operating budget of the section
  • Clearly articulate complex technical issues and manage expectations regarding public infrastructure projects
  • Provide direction for the team's continuous improvement and consistency of systems and processes
  • Anticipate business opportunities, influence policy, planning and initiatives, and foster a culture of accountability through performance measurement 
  • Integrate multi-disciplinary teams to work collaboratively with stakeholders supporting corporate priorities 
  • Build new and innovative collaborative partnerships with external agencies, orders of government, community organizations, and internal departments and branches
  • Ensure all Occupational Health and Safety, ENVISO, Procurement, Project Management and other City policies and procedures are followed in the Facility Planning and Design Section
