If so, the City of Edmonton has an exciting opportunity for you to join our Development Engineering and Drawing Review unit as a Development Engineer in Training (EIT).
As a Development Engineer in Training (EIT), you will play a crucial role in reviewing and supporting the City's development projects, ensuring they align with municipal standards and guidelines. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of infrastructure projects that enhance the quality of life for Edmontonians. Your primary focus will be on drainage systems, lot grading design, and stormwater management, contributing to the sustainable growth and development of our city.
What will you do?
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Development Engineer, you will:
- Review engineering design drawing and document submissions that have been prepared by Developer's engineering consultants related to surface grading, stormwater management (storm sewer mains and trunks, overland drainage, detention facilities, outfalls) and wastewater drainage systems (sanitary sewer mains and trunks, forcemains)
- Complete all design reviews to verify compliance with Municipal Bylaws, Standards, Planning and Engineering Servicing studies, Provincial and Federal Regulatory bodies, Land development approval conditions, various safety, environmental and operating requirements and good engineering practices
- Advice on adhering to the above before recommending approval of the design drawings
- Consult with subject matter experts at EPCOR Water on additional aspects to be reviewed of specialised components such as lift stations and monitoring control devices
- Work with consultants to address and resolve technical and non-technical development issues associated with sewer systems and lot grading design while meeting the intent and requirements of the municipal standards and guidelines, provincial guidelines and best engineering management practices
- Communicate with developers and consultants major issues within the design and prepare written follow-ups on the matters that require attention and where further details and information is expected
- Review non-standard proposals being put forward by developers and their engineering consultants and recommend acceptance or rejection of such proposals to Professional Engineers
- Seek technical advice from internal (Engineering Services) and external (EPCOR) staff on matters related to surface grading, storm and sanitary servicing and associated items
- Review amendments to previously approved design drawing (redlines)
- Review Utility Right of Way (URW) applications
- Review and comment on proposed changes to Engineering Standards
- Address and prepare responses to general inquiries from the public, realtors, developers, other departments and agencies regarding sewer servicing options, constraints and associated development issues
- Perform other related duties as assigned
