GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a higher classification, performs highly responsible administrative and clerical work involving complex work methods and specialized duties of a legal nature. Work may involve preparation and processing of court records including court dockets and court orders. Work may also involve transcription of City and Parish Council minutes as well as verbatim recording of court proceedings. Employees of this classification should be familiar with legal terminology, legal format, and legal forms. Incumbents perform work independently and may exercise supervision over lower level classifications. Performs other work as requested.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and four years of experience in progressively responsible clerical duties of a legal nature.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Position(s) may require the ability to obtain a Certified Digital Reporter Certificate (CDR).

OTHER JOB ASPECTS
Position(s) may require passing a typing (45 words per minute), word processing, spreadsheet and/or other computer skill test(s).

None.

EXAMINATION
Advanced Clerical examination required (may take up to 2 ½ hours from test start time). Subject areas and other exam preparation information are available at: https://www.brla.gov/261/Examination-Preparation. Examinations are available on most Tuesdays, 8:30 – 9:00 am, check-in, Thursdays, *12:00 - 12:30 pm, and Fridays, 8:30 – 9:00 am check-in. Please call Human Resources Recruiting and Examination at 389-3132 to confirm testing dates and times. Test check-in is on a first come-first served basis. There are occasions where the test room is filled to capacity and applicants are asked to return on another day for testing. Picture identification, proof of social security number and a completed online employment application are required for test room admittance. *Where exam volume is expected to be high, check-in of applicants may begin as early as 11:30 am in order to complete the check-in process prior to the required 12:30 cut-off time.
