GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a higher classification, performs responsible administrative and engineering work as a manager in Public Building Maintenance, Library Board of Control, or Airport. Work involves managerial planning, organizing and directing the custodial, construction, electrical and mechanical sections of the division. The incumbent assists subordinates with professional technical advice particularly in the area of mechanical and electrical operations and maintenance. Work also involves overseeing and conducting inspection of construction projects. The incumbent is also subject to twenty-four hour call for situations of a professional or administrative nature needing immediate attention. General direction is exercised over the section supervisors. Performs other work as requested.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and five years of experience at the journeyman level in two or more of the major building trades, including two years of supervisory experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Associate's degree in construction technology/management will substitute for two years of work experience; bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or construction technology/management will substitute for four years of work experience. Six semester (9 quarter) hours in business administration and/or management will substitute for one year of supervisory experience; twelve semester (18 quarter) hours in business administration and/or management will substitute for two years of supervisory experience. The following years of experience meets the journeyman-level experience requirement: air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration (9 years), carpentry (9 years), electrical (10 years), locksmith (9 years), painting (8 years), plumbing (10 years), or roofing (8 years). Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Position(s) of this classification may require at the time of application, possession of the appropriate Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) refrigerant recycling and recovery certification (Type I, II, III or Universal) for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990). Position(s) of this classification may require at the time of application, possession of a Journeyman or Master Plumber License from the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana. Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
