CREDIT OFFICER LEAD - Entertainment Banking Hybrid Schedule, Beverly Hills, CA.

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The Credit Officer Lead will provide leadership and direction to credit colleagues assigned to Entertainment Banking's C&I team.

This colleague will:

  • Lead and support deal teams by providing credit and loan underwriting expertise to the cash flow lending/leveraged finance group within Entertainment Banking (EB), support partnerships with EB C&I's Relationship Managers and Team Managers in underwriting new deals, and in the management of the team's assigned portfolio.
  • Work with the unit's Chief Business Line Lending Officer to assess credit worthiness, loan quality, loan structure, and collateral analysis while ensuring compliance with pricing mandates, credit policy and unit's lending standard.
  • Coach, mentor, and inspire the team's credit colleagues and peers in the evaluation of credit risk for existing clients with a focus on serving as an early warning indicator of deteriorating credit quality to reduce credit risk.
  • Validate the credit analysis prepared by the Credit Analysts and provides opinions and recommendations regarding proposed credit and potential risks. Ensures all due diligence and background evaluation is complete and thorough before a Credit Memo is submitted for approval.
  • Ensure the risk ratings assigned at origination are accurately stated with defensible rationale provided in support and ensure that risk ratings are assessed at the appropriate intervals during the tenor of a loan.

What you will do

  • Reviews loan requests, historical financial information, cash flow projections and third party reporting (e.g., Quality of Earnings Reports, Environmental reports, cash flow projections, industry analysis, etc.); evaluates and determines credit structure and terms; fully underwrites credit approval memos consistent with Bank format, policies, procedures, and standards; determines sources and uses of funds; analyzes industry data, competitive factors, historical performance, projected results, risks, and mitigating factors. Ensures credit approval memos contain a well-supported recommendation or decision and the data and analytics used to support the decision are calculated correctly.
  • Leads the wing-to-wing underwriting process including proposal letter preparation, due diligence, dynamic 3-statement financial modeling, credit memo preparation, compliance, definitive loan documentation, loan closing, etc.
  • Negotiates and reviews credit agreements, guaranty and security agreements, intercreditor agreements, subordination agreements, amendments, consents, waivers, forbearance agreements, etc.
  • Performs or guides junior credit colleagues in the preparation of monthly/quarterly and annual reviews of client's condition including monitoring financial performance, risk rating, capacity to repay, covenants, etc.
  • Manages a portfolio of borrowers across multiple Entertainment industry subsectors with various structures, roles, commitments and risk ratings.
  • Reviews collateral periodically to minimize credit exposure and lead, coaches, and mentors credit analysts in the verification of borrowing bases.
  • Evaluates credit requests to assess creditworthiness, prepare the corresponding approval memorandum, and document the waiver/consent/amendment, as applicable.
  • Coordinates loan documentation, including work with outside counsel to obtain accurate documents that correctly capture the business deal in order to ensure all loan are documented to fully protect the Bank's interests in the credit relationship.
  • Provides balanced and appropriate credit guidance to Relationship Managers and the Chief Business Line Lending Officer and collaborates in determining the appropriate strategy.
  • Attends client meetings at Relationship Manager or the Chief Business Line Lending Officer's request to facilitate delivery of credit products and/or assist in problem resolution. Contacts borrowers directly, for additional information and details related to loan requests or clarification of financial materials and resources.
  • Performs quarterly Problem Loan reporting for Criticized / Classified credits including financial reviews of client's financial condition including monitoring covenants and conditions. Takes a proactive approach toward development and implementation of Action Plans. Escalates potential credit issues to Relationship Manager and the Chief Business Line Lending Officer
  • Has a primary role in early problem loan identification and the timely and accurate changes in assigned risk ratings. Monitors and takes initiative to respond to past dues based in partnership with Relationship Manager.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge on all Bank lending policies and regulations. Confers with the Chief Business Line Lending Officer and appropriate Bank personnel regarding new/existing lending requirements and regulations.
  • Participate in the training and development of the Credit Analyst on the team including financial statement analysis, business writing, cash flow modeling and enterprise valuation.

Must-Have*

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in underwriting and managing medium to large sized and complex commercial credit required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a banking or financial services environment required.

Skills and Knowledge

  • College degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (e.g. MBA) and/or certification (e.g. CFA) preferred but not required.
  • Preferred entertainment and entertainment related industries experience, including underwriting/portfolio management experience for companies in at least one of three sub-industries of focus: film & television production, music, and sports.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, succinctly, and persuasively and effectively in both verbal/written forms
  • Experience in underwriting medium to large sized and complex corporate credit
  • Adept at analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating financial statements, financial modeling (including three-statement financial modeling and projections), enterprise valuation, collateral valuation, and loan structuring/documentation.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to assume responsibilities and accountability for decision making. Ability to work well independently and in teams and to interact effectively with all levels of Bank personnel and outside contacts.
  • Complete in depth understanding of leveraged lending credit policies and procedures.
  • Wide application of credit principles and concepts.
  • Excellent credit analysis and accounting skills
  • High level of Excel expertise
Compensation Starting base salary: $127,626 - $237,014 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
