COMMUNITY DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE SPECIALIST
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? The Community Down Payment Assistance Specialist will work closely with borrowers, mortgage bankers, and operations staff to secure down payment assistance from various local, state, and federal programs. This role is responsible for assessing borrower and community second providers for eligibility and guiding borrowers through the application process.
What you will do
- Review application packages for community second providers and compile required documentation
- Partner with internal stakeholders such as credit, legal, risk, and compliance to review potential community second providers for approval
- Partner closely with the sales and operations team to obtain required documentation for down payment assistance approval
- Partner closely with various down payment assistance agencies/community second providers to provide documentation needed to secure funds for borrowers
- Act as a single point of contact for various down payment assistance agencies
- Responsible for the annual re-certification process for all down payment assistance providers
- Proactively identify down payment assistance providers in the markets that we serve and make recommendations to senior management whether to pursue or not
- Serve as an intermediary between borrowers, the bank, and assistance programs to facilitate communication and streamline the process
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local, state, and federal down payment assistance programs
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, program applications, and outcomes. Prepare reports on program effectiveness and client success stories
- Other duties as/or assigned by management
Must-Have*
- H.S. Diploma
- 3+ years experience working directly with down payment assistance agencies (local/state/federal)
- 3+ years of mortgage operations experience
Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent working knowledge of DPA programs such as LIPA/MIPA
- Excellent working knowledge of the mortgage origination process
- Ability to maintain high levels of performance, especially in stressful situations
- Strong knowledge of federal/state regulatory policies and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to effectively communication with internal and external parties and articulate information
- Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office and Loan Origination systems
