Mercy Health in Toledo, Ohio is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as the General Surgery Residency Program Director and Surgical Specialty Leader. This key leadership role involves overseeing the general surgery residency program, ensuring its accreditation, and fostering an environment conducive to educational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the general surgery residency program to maintain accreditation, providing a robust workforce and enhancing recruitment efforts.
  • Allocate 40 hours per week, comprising 16 administrative hours and 24 clinical hours. Occasional weekend or evening residency duties may be required.

Qualifications:
  • Specialty expertise in general surgery or a surgical subspecialty.
  • Minimum of three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience.
  • Current certification by the American Board of Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery in the respective specialty.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity in one or more of the following areas:
    • Research in basic science, education, translational science, patient care, or population health.
    • Peer-reviewed grants.
    • Quality improvement and/or patient safety initiatives.
    • Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, review articles, chapters in medical textbooks, or case reports.
    • Creation of curricula, evaluation tools, didactic educational activities, or electronic educational materials.
    • Contributions to professional committees, educational organizations, or editorial boards.
    • Innovations in education.

Required Experience:
  • Proven experience in teaching within general surgery and/or a subspecialty.
  • Direct involvement in managing or directing a residency program.
