The IX Designer II owns documentation projects for specific features or components, enhancing content quality and user engagement. Demonstrates growing expertise in Information Development tools and practices. Expands skills in multiple content formats, contributing to process improvements. In this position, the IX Designer II actively participates within the documentation team and with other cross-functional colleagues, such as those in engineering, QA, product management, customer support, product operations, and education. IX Designer II might be asked to assist junior team members with technological and procedural tasks.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
- Owns content creation for specific features or components, improving clarity and user engagement. Competent in documentation, video, and image creation/editing tools.
- Expand research skills to include more complex technical experimentation and stakeholder interviews.
- Begin to take on leadership roles in small projects, coordinating documentation efforts across teams.
- Develop content design principles for specific features or components, focusing on user engagement and clarity.
- Conduct technical reviews for more complex documentation, working closely with subject matter experts to clarify and correct technical nuances.
- Organize and conduct user testing sessions for more complex documentation projects, analyzing feedback to identify key areas for improvement. Self-validate content by performing the steps as documented. Perform peer review of content written by junior team members.
- Create and use the version control options of the documentation infrastructure. Become familiar with advanced options such as merging and deleting versions.
- Actively seeks feedback on their documentation, implements changes to improve quality, and starts to become familiar with industry best practices. Help other information developers as required to meet deadlines.
- Make recommendations to improve technical information based on the needs of the target audience. Make recommendations to improve the content model, style, and structural elements of BMC documentation. Initiate and recommend creative ways to improve technical information deliverables and processes. Use creative approaches to solving problems.
- Report accurate and timely status for all assignments. Escalate issues to management.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience OR advanced degree with 3 years of experience required.
- Proficient with accepted industry-specific authoring tools, such as Confluence wiki, FrameMaker, Javadoc Help, RoboHelp, HTML, XML, Adobe Acrobat, SnagIT, Paint Shop Pro, and so on.
- Excellent technical writing skills.
- Recent experience developing technical documentation for software products.
- A strong understanding of the documentation development process, the software development process, and product lifecycles.
- Ability to maintain professionalism when representing IDD. Help IDD cultivate good working relationships with groups internal and external to IDD and BMC.
- Characteristics: professional, high energy, strong technical aptitude, flexible, independent, detail-oriented, self-starter requiring minimal oversight, good follow-through, willingness to accept responsibility and accountability, willingness to accept assignments as dictated by the needs of the business, and a strong commitment to teamwork.

Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
The salary listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.
