Join us an Intellectual Property Paralegal!
As an Intellectual Property (IP) Paralegal at BMC, you will provide administrative support for various aspects of our intellectual property function as well as be an administrative assistant to the Chief IP Counsel. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn new things and take your experience to the next level.
Here is how, through this exciting role, you will contribute to BMC's and your own success:
- Work with internal and outside patent counsel and inventors on patent acquisition, providing patent-related statistics, implementing the company's inventor recognition program, developing the expiration dates of patents, and reviewing patent annuities payments.
- Work with internal and outside trademark counsel and marketers on trademark registration, handling renewals of trademarks, performing initial trademark searches, updating the company's registered trademark list, and gathering financial and other required information for foreign oppositions and trademark litigations.
- Work with inhouse counsel and information technologists to secure new domain names, renew existing domain names, and determining domain names to be allowed to expire or sell.
- Work with the Legal Department's office manager, finance, and the Chief IP Counsel to stay within allocated budget by tracking accruals and forecasts for the intellectual property budget by quarter, pre-reviewing all invoices, and providing Excel sheet updates on budget status.
- Work with marketers, product operations, and information technology by pre-reviewing all press releases, approving new product names, and updating intellectual property-related guidance on internal IP website.
- Work with information technology and the Chief IP Counsel by maintaining the internal website and/or corporate IP file repository with updated IP documents and information and organizing and maintaining consistency in digital files and their format, as well as conducting legal research as requested.
- You hold a bachelor's or associate degree in paralegal studies or related field. Paralegal Certification is preferred but can be obtained on the job.
- You have 5+ years working in a mid to large corporate legal environment; 3+ years' experience in IP law preferred as well as experience working within an enterprise software company.
- You have advanced financial and Excel spreadsheet skills.
- You have experience with Intellectual property including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
- You have intermediate to advanced PowerPoint skills.
- Familiarity with U.S. Patent & Trademark Office procedures and filings a plus.

The annual base salary range represents the low and high end of the BMC salary range for this position. Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
The range listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.
At BMC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at /near the top of the range. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $61,050 - $101,750
