PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The purpose of this position is to supervise and provide leadership to security personnel and security operations for Blanchard Valley Hospital, as well as across the locations of Blanchard Valley Health System to ensure a safe, secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.  This position ensures security-related equipment (e.g. radios, cameras, alarms, proximity readers) are fully functional and area staff are knowledgeable of operation. This position is responsible for conducting hazard vulnerability analyses, risk assessments and security investigations. The Security Supervisor is also responsible for developing campus security plans, implementing best practice and standardizing security operating procedures to reduce security risk and maintain a service-based culture.   

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duty 1: Supervises and coordinates the activities of Security department associates to ensure compliance with BVHS policies and procedures, federal, state, and local laws including CMS and The Joint Commission requirements.
  • Duty 2: Sets and maintains staffing plans and schedules to meet the security needs of the organization.
  • Duty 3: Establishes, evaluates, and ensures security equipment is operational and security and area BVHS staff are trained and understand operation.
  • Duty 4: Maintains proper and current access control plans to ensure the physical safety at BVHS locations. 
  • Duty 5: Completes and compiles vulnerability analysis and security risk assessments for review by Risk Management and the Safety Officer.  Safety Officer should be informed of all matters concerning safety and security.
  • Duty 6: Conducts, reviews, and reports on security investigations while maintaining a high level of integrity and respect for privacy.
  • Duty 7: Establishes and maintains ongoing training program for associates focusing on security equipment, active shooter, and workplace violence prevention. Maintains certification requirements to teach mandatory security programs.  
  • Duty 8: Develops and maintains a cooperative working relationship between BVHS and local law enforcement. This includes working with various BVHS associates and management personnel to promote timely and effective exchange of information.
  • Duty 9: Maintains accurate record keeping to evaluate and identify security related risks and trends throughout the health system.
  • Duty 10: Develops and upholds department and organizational policies and emergency/contingency response plans.
  • Duty 11: Develops security plans for campuses across the Blanchard Valley Health System. Plans should include staff training, security equipment and monitoring activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years' experience in security management or law enforcement supervision.
  • Strong planning, organizing, and leadership skills.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Previous knowledge and experience in security and safety practices and compliance is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state).  You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status.  Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in related field

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent activities in walking, lifting, bending, squatting and twisting. The associate will be required to stand for eight hours a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The associate must have eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. The individual must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The position requires excellent verbal skills to perform daily tasks.
