Position Summary
The School of Business & Technology division is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time tenure track faculty member for Fall 2025 in the Software Development department. The Software Development faculty will perform duties and functions under the general direction of the provost and shall be responsible primarily to the Dean of the School of Business & Technology.
Bellevue College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Software Development with a focus on Artificial Intelligence. The successful candidate will teach across both our AAS-T and BAS degree programs during Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. We seek an innovative educator who demonstrates excellence in teaching, brings industry expertise in AI and software development, and shows a proven commitment to student success. The ideal candidate will contribute to shaping our curriculum while preparing students for the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.
The successful candidate must reside in Washington State by the start of the position and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching in person. This includes teaching on the Bellevue College campus and participating in non-teaching duties such as committee service, advising, and professional development activities. While there may be opportunities to teach online or hybrid courses, faculty are expected to maintain a significant presence on campus to support students, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to the college community.

Position Salary Range: $81,757.08/year - $114,664.94/year
Annual salary is based on a 176-day contract with a minimum of $81,757.08; beginning salary will be determined by the assessment of the candidate's education and related experience. New hires start no higher than $87,663.74 unless exceptional circumstances prevail. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

In addition to teaching, full-time faculty maintains office hours and participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

Bellevue College faculty have a history of innovation in higher education, having been one of the first institutions in the United States to develop and offer an AAS-T degree in Artificial Intelligence. As a faculty member in our Software Development program, you will contribute to this legacy by equipping students with cutting-edge skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in this rapidly evolving field. This includes incorporating AI concepts and technologies into your coursework, staying current with the latest research and industry best practices, and sharing expertise in areas such as Python programming, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, data analysis, statistics, and the ethical considerations fundamental to AI development.
Teaching duties include:
- Teaching and learning including designing and delivering engagement coursework in AI using contemporary teaching methods, developing, and assessing student learning outcomes that align with program goals and industry needs, actively participating in curriculum development initiatives that keep pace with rapid technological change, and creating hands-on, engaging learning experiences that bridge theoretical concepts with practical applications.
- Student Success & Mentorship including guiding students in their academic journey and career development, providing mentoring to both students and fellow faculty members, and fostering connections between students and industry.
- Teaching responsibilities include foundational to advanced coursework in our Software Development - Artificial Intelligence track, including Python programming, machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, AI ethics, and industry-focused Capstone courses. The position requires expertise in delivering instruction across multiple modalities - on-campus, hybrid, and online learning environments - to meet diverse student needs. Courses may be offered in morning, afternoon, or evening times, or be fully online asynchronous. Weekly office hours outside of class hours are required. Additional courses may be assigned based on program needs and the candidate's expertise, including areas such as Project Management, Software Development principles, and Application Development.
- Fostering an Inclusive Learning Environment including creating an equitable and inclusive learning environment that celebrates diverse perspectives, implementing culturally responsive teaching practices, supporting students of all backgrounds in achieving their educational goals and contributing to institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Non-teaching duties include:
- Program Leadership & Governance including contributing to program development and institutional initiatives, participating in college, division, and program governance, supporting accreditation processes, and serving in program leadership roles.
- Professional Growth & Industry Engagement including maintaining currency in AI through ongoing professional development, building and nurturing relationships with industry partners, contributing to the growth of our program advisory committee, and engaging with the broader technical community through conferences, workshops, and networking.
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in Software Development/Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or closely related field
- Demonstrated expertise in Python programming and AI/ML frameworks
- Professional experience in software development
- Current knowledge of industry trends in software development and artificial intelligence
- Demonstrated commitment to educational innovation and evidence-based teaching practices
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect and build meaningful relationships with students and colleagues from diverse ethnicities, age groups, backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities.
- Technical skills in at least two of the following areas:
- Machine Learning and Deep Learning
- Computer Vision
- Natural Language Processing
- AI Ethics and Responsible AI Development
- Software Development Methodologies
- Data Analysis
- Statistics
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Python and at least one of the following: JavaScript, C#, C++
- Experience teaching at the college-level
- Experience developing AI-focused curriculum
- Experience implementing innovative teaching strategies and emerging educational technologies
- Demonstrated experience teaching effectively across more than modalities (traditional, hybrid, and online environments)
- Demonstrated success working collaboratively in diverse, inclusive academic environments
- Active participation in professional organizations related to AI/ML or software development
- Experience mentoring and supporting students from diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge of project management methodologies, including Agile and Scrum
