Custodian 1



 

SALARY:   $1,457/month for a 16 hour per week schedule


 

LOCATION: Lynnwood, Washington


 

DESCRIPTION:   

This position performs routine custodial duties, project work, setups, responds to urgent requests, and minor maintenance and repairs. Custodians are required to complete daily assigned work areas. Floor surfaces are carpet, tile, concrete, terrazzo, wood, and concrete.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms. Clean a variety of surfaces that include floors, baseboards, white boards, erasers, vents, ledges, walls, furniture, and windows inside and out, etc. Remove trash and clean trash containers up to 55 gallons in size. Sweep outside entrances and sidewalks. Set up, take down, and move furniture and equipment for meetings, classes, conferences, and events. Move equipment, and heavy objects weighing 50 pounds. More than 50 pounds with assistance or use of appliance dollies to clean classrooms, meeting rooms, as well as perform processes necessary to complete required tasks. Perform minor repairs. Clean carpets and refinish floors using appropriate methods and procedures. 
  • Custodians are responsible for cleaning a variety of the spaces, which include classrooms, restrooms, offices, lounges, board rooms, kitchens, cafeterias, restaurants, auditoriums, lecture halls, banquet rooms, outside entrances to buildings, hallways and foyers, gymnasiums, locker rooms, weight rooms, science labs, computer labs, libraries, reading rooms, work rooms, communications center, art galleries, staircases, child care areas, and other public areas. 



 

This is a classified position reporting to the Custodial Supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Physical ability to do the required work
  • Effective English reading and speaking skills
  • Some experience using a computer
  • Knowledge of cleaning agents and chemicals
  • Ability to use a computer to submit timesheets.

  • Knowledge of carpet and floor care procedures, methods, and equipment
  • Experience cleaning large institutions 
  • Self-discipline, self-motivation
  • Ability to work with college staff in a pleasant manner

  • Must possess a valid driver¿s license



 

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position generally works alone after dark, but will have contact with custodial staff, other college staff, students, and campus visitors. Most work is performed inside buildings, and some work outdoors is required. Duties common to custodial work require physical strength, agility, and endurance to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, bend/reach, lift, pull or push objects weighing up to 50 pounds. More than 50 pounds with assistance, operate heavy custodial equipment. Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals, dust and other environmental conditions is expected in custodial work. Effective communication skills are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is a second language. 

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a permanent classified position up to 16 hours per week schedule. Monday- Sunday  6-10PM


 

COMPENSATION:  

Salary is Range 32, $1,457/month for a 16 hour per week schedule. This position is not eligible for benefits. Paid PTO/Sick leave on an accrual basis.


 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

  • You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.
  • Criminal background check.  Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant¿s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
