JOB SUMMARY

Director of Orthopedics and Pain Management is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating operations and programs of the musculoskeletal service line at Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH) at Baylor University Medical Center, which include the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with a wide range of orthopedic conditions in BUMC and central region activities. Musculoskeletal areas of care may include orthopedic surgery, orthopedic trauma, scoliosis and other spine disorders, Plans and directs programs and activities which may include clinical practice guidance, clinical rotations, utilization, quality, productivity, performance standards, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and continuing education. Develops and establishes policies and procedures related to the orthopedic practice and monitors policy implementation, communication, and compliance. Advises BUMC leadership, medical staff, departments, and operations in matters related to BSWH orthopedic practice and ensures alignment with overall BSWH business objectives. Collaborates with clinical operations, physician leadership, and nursing leadership to drive improvement in the delivery of orthopedic, physical medicine and pain management and overall quality of patient care at BSWH. Identifies and implements best practice programs and processes and ensures compliance with all regulatory areas that impact musculoskeletal care. Directs the orthopedic clinical practice, coordinates patient service delivery, educates and develops orthopedic staff, and monitors orthopedic work environment for BSWH. Partners closely with physician and senior leadership in the development of growth strategies, achievement of targets, and outcome improvement.

Recommends policies and organizational changes for area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual objectives. Leads and advises subordinate(s) to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Has a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to the role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

1. Directs the neuroscience service line for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH.
2. Recommends and implements the neuroscience strategic and operational plans and priorities aligned to BSWH overall business objectives.
3. Develops and implements neuroscience services policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives for all assigned areas of responsibility.
4. Contributes to the neuroscience growth plan and collaborates with senior leadership, key stakeholders, and marketing to promote the service line.
5. Leads the investigation and resolution of patient and physician problems/issues to facilitate resolution and tracks issues as necessary to optimize services.
6. Evaluates the efficiency of business procedures and directs process improvement activities.
7. Leads change related to hospital and system-wide strategies, initiatives, and desired outcomes through communication, management training, and promoting stakeholder buy-in within assigned areas of responsibility.
8. Leads efforts and activities to streamline processes, apply best practices, and increase volumes for the service line.
9. Ensures that neuroscience services are compliant with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
10. Develops relationships with stakeholders, medical staff, and other BSWH departments to increase awareness, encourage referrals, and promote neuroscience services.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

1. Bachelor's degree nursing, health care administration, or related field preferred. Master's degree preferred.
2. 3+ years of experience in a healthcare service line, or related area.
3. Experience in a leadership role preferred.
4. Experience managing a service line in a large, complex health care system preferred.
5. Project management and process improvement skills
6. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
