Description

JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Provide Inpatient Physical and Medicine Rehabilitation services to all patients at a level consistent with Baton Rouge Rehabilitation Hospital (BRRH) mission, vision and values.
Provides respiratory therapy and/or performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to cardiopulmonary disorder as ordered by physician and in accordance with established standards and practices. Job is performed appropriately for the age population served as defined in the department's 
scope of service. 
JOB FUNCTIONS
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
1. Performs respiratory care procedures without direct supervision.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Delivers and correctly sets up equipment.
• Monitors patients on continuous ventilation at frequency defined by department policy
• Monitors environmental control systems, ensures quality and safety standards are met 100% of the time.
• Observes patient, checks equipment, changes/makes adjustments as necessary, adhering to department standards of care.
• Discontinues therapy as ordered; applies emergency protocols when needed.
2. Maintains established hospital/departmental quality assurance, safety and infection control policies and procedures.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
• Assists with and participates in the development and implementation of QA and QI functions to evaluate and improve the operations for the respiratory care department.
• Follows established departmental safety and infection control policies and procedures. Cleans and checks equipment, making sure it is sterile and ready for patient use. Collaborates with the 
medical staff on the effectiveness of the respiratory treatment as it relates to the patient/family plan of care.
• Handles medications safely and securely
3. Provides staff education through the presentation of in-services; serves as mentor and resource to other staff.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Demonstrates currency of knowledge about professional and technological changes and assesses education need to address changes. 
• Develops staff education in-services that are consistently evaluated as excellent and pertinent.
• Seeks opportunities to enhance staff knowledge through mentoring and modeling proper procedure.
4. Performs all other duties as assigned.



Requirements

One year in acute care hospital preferred
SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Current Louisiana License as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
CPR Certified
PALS and ACLS preferred
