1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.

2. Monitors and ensures accurate and timely services in all areas of the Pathology Department. 

3. Is responsible for the routine operation equipment and instrumentation to include validating the performance of equipment through the use of control tissue and other verification methods. 

4. Consistently demonstrates knowledge of requirements, techniques, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely delivery of services.  Including collection techniques, specimen requirements, and tissue and fluid processing techniques.

5. Supports the day to day operations of the Pathology laboratory to ensure accurate results and efficient workflow

6. Determines priorities in workload and completes projects in an accurate and timely manner. 

7. Recognizes unusual conditions outside of his/her expertise and seeks guidance of coworkers or supervisors. 

8. Effectively coordinates scheduled daily activities to ensure productivity standards are met and work is completed in a timely manner. 

9. Operates and ensures proper functioning of equipment and instrumentation and follows procedure when equipment malfunctions.  Documents malfunctions and corrective actions.

10. Keeps updated policies and procedures. 

11. Demonstrates a working knowledge of regulatory and licensing standards and ensures that practice is compliant with standards.

12. Can be called upon to orientate, instruct, and train assigned personnel.

13. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.

 


Summary of Position: 

The Histology Technician is responsible for the accurate preparation and analysis of histological testing performed or the overseeing of histological testing. This involves constant monitoring of quality control procedures, minor equipment maintenance, specimen collection techniques and consultation with other pathology staff.

Qualifications:

Education:

• High School diploma with 10 years of Histology experience.  Or the completion of an accredited HT program. Or a combined 60 academic credits in anatomy, physiology, histology, microscopy, chemistry, biology, and related course work with 3 years of acceptable Histology experience.

Experience:

• 3 years previous experience as a Histology Technician in a hospital or similar institution preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• The technician performs Histology and is licensed to provide the following services; processing of tissue, fluids, and other patient specimens for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. 

• Knowledge of embedding, cutting, staining, slide preparation and the performance of special stains and the staining of non-gynecological specimens.

• Responsible for the accurate preparation and analysis of histological testing performed or the overseeing of histological testing. This involves constant monitoring of quality control procedures, minor equipment maintenance, specimen collection techniques and consultation with other pathology staff.

Certifications/Licensure:

• ASCP Certification or other accredited Histology program certification preferred. 

• Current Nevada Histology Technologist License or submit proof of application submitted upon hire. Must obtain license within 6 months of hire.
