***Per Diem employees must make themselves available to work a minimum of 3 full shifts per month in their home department, one of which is a weekend shift in departments with weekend staffing. Availability must be provided to the department prior to the closure of the department's scheduling process. Availability must align with open shifts on the schedule. Must be available to work 1 premium pay summer holiday and 1 premium pay winter holiday. In addition to advanced scheduling, the per diem employee may be called to help with last minute scheduling needs

Summary of Position:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists licensed staff in the provision of basic nursing care in the Medical/Surgical and Orthopedic unit, utilizing established policies and procedures, ensuring safe and effective care. The CNA demonstrates the skill necessary to meet the needs of patients served in the Medical/Surgical/Orthopedic unit through support of the nursing process; collects patient care data, reports findings, and assists team to meet patient care goals. The CNA is under the supervision of the licensed staff of the unit and reports to the Nurse Manager or designee. This position description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications which may be required of the employee assigned to the position.
Qualifications
Education:
● Completion of nursing assistant program
Experience:
● Previous nursing assistance experience and/or completion of nursing assistant program required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
● Provides personal care assistance to patients
● Communicates appropriate information regarding patient safety and infection control to RN or nurses manager.
● Demonstrates a working knowledge of regulatory and licensing standards and ensures that practice is compliant with standards.
● Operates within the confines of his/her scope of practice as determined by the knowledge, skills and ability obtained through job-related education and training and as approved by all governing, regulatory and, where appropriate, licensing authorities.
● Highly effective written and verbal communications skills.
● Proficient computer skills as are required to document, communicate and enter information into the electronic medical records system.
● Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
● Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
● In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate in English; Bilingual abilities preferred
Certifications/Licensure:
● Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date
● Current CA Nursing Assistant Certification or provide proof of passing California certification process prior to start date.

Essential Functions
1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.

3. As directed by licensed nursing staff, provides care in a manner that is safe and sensitive to the rights of each patient.
4. As directed, assists the care team by collecting patient care data at designated intervals on all assigned patients. Reports finding to licensed staff.
5. Recognizes and accurately reports relevant patient information to licensed staff.
6. Utilizes time, equipment, and supplies in an efficient manner. Completes all assigned duties during designated shift.
7. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
