This will be a hybrid position based out of the Banfield Pet Hospital headquarters in Vancouver, WA.

Salary Range: $31.00 - $42.63/hour (DOE)

Summary and Qualifications:

Develop controls and processes to ensure the company is compliant with all Federal, State, and Local payroll regulations, playing a critical part to reporting data and coordinating with Mars Veterinary Health (MVH) data analytics.

Manage various projects from initiation to completion, ensuring quality assurance from payroll team on processes and communications to associates.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.

  • Audit all aspects of the payroll function to ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations, performing regular audits of payroll output and provide to Manager Payroll for review.

  • Collaborate with timekeeping and scheduling teams to ensure processes and communications are succinct throughout.

  • Partner with People & Organization (P&O) Business Partners and hospital leaders to ensure that all parties are informed and updated on various regulations as they relate to pay, collaborating with HRIS, Benefits and other cross functional teams to address payroll related needs and initiatives.

  • Manage payroll process and timeline from beginning inputs to end reconciliations, balancing and delivering initial drafted payroll.

  • Audit final pay for terminated associates, off cycle payments processed by Coordinators and all manual checks as requested.

  • Remain up to date on payroll regulations, to include federal and state-specific law, working with payroll management and partner teams to understand state-specific deadlines as mandated.

  • Facilitate and communicate any Federal. State, or local payroll and tax withholding updates or changes.

  • Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.

  • Perform data entry, periodic tax and time entry auditing, as needed.

  • Act as liaison between Payroll and MVH for analytics, compliance, and reporting.

  • Provide continuous training to the payroll team with updates on changes to current processes.

  • Update SOP documentation as needed and maintain processing tools for use by the payroll team.

  • Prepare and maintain reporting to track metrics, identify meaningful insights and make recommendations to solve potential issues needing attention.

  • Provide reporting to the payroll management team for possible trends in coordinator error as opportunities for coaching and improvement.

  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time. 

  • Project timelines and work volume / deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.

  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.

  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.

  • May require extensive periods of data entry and perform periodic tax and time entry auditing.

  • Environment where pets are present.

Education & Professional Qualification

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related area of study is preferred, or a combination of education, training and experience to provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • CPP or comparative certificationis preferred.

  • Five years of relevant professional payroll experience are required.

  • Experience in data entry and a strong understanding of accounting and how it relates to Payroll are required.

  • Excellent Excel skills - ability to create pivot tables, work with multiple spreadsheets, etc. is required.

  • Experience with multi-state wage and hour laws, garnishments, tax returns, and general ledger entries is required.
