- Demonstrates use of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self, and patients
- Unit Specific Job Function: Demonstrates knowledge of the conditions/diagnoses, procedures and equipment encountered for surgical patients
- Individualizes patient care according to the procedure and type of anesthesia across the continuum of care
- Assesses patient reaction and understanding of procedure/instructions
- Responsibility and Accountability: Contributes to the perioperative team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing patient care by prioritizing the care of patients depending on their needs and any changes in their condition
- Patient Education and Chart Completion: Assesses patient's understanding of surgical procedure/instructions, actively including the patient and family members in teaching
- Performs pre-operative and postoperative assessment and education
- Duties Specific to PAT RN: Supports the completion of patient testing in a timely manner
- Evaluates Pre Admission Testing (PAT) orders for appropriateness and for potential omissions based on proposed surgery, patient age, and current state of health
