Department of Economic Security, Division of Aging and Adult Services, seeks an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Behavioral Health Coordinator with the Adult Protective Services Unit. DAAS supports at-risk Arizonans to meet their basic needs and to live safely, with dignity and independence. Services and programs reach a diverse population of Arizonans.

The Behavioral Health Coordinator will review cases in which clients are identified to have or may have behavioral health diagnoses at the request of Adult Protective Service (APS) investigators and leaders, provide guidance to investigators and supervisors on approaches to working with diagnosed and undiagnosed behavioral health conditions and provide guidance on working within the behavioral health network within Arizona. The Behavioral Health Coordinator will research and identify mental health trends in repeat clients as a result of unmet or untreated behavioral health needs and establish a comprehensive plan for working with them. This individual will also coordinate with mental health providers throughout the state to navigate and assess challenging situations and clients, as well as provide education around the role of APS.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review and provide consultations on cases in which clients are identified to have or may have behavioral health diagnoses.
  • Coordinate with behavioral health providers/case managers, DDD support coordinators and other professionals regarding investigations involving clients who have complex behavioral health challenges.
  • Identify the needs of APS clients to enhance program development and process improvements according to best mental health practices.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, webinars and conduct independent research to learn about trends and new information in treating and working with individuals with behavioral health diagnoses.
  • Coordinate with psychological providers to get evaluations completed when needed for the purposes of assessing vulnerability and/or guardianship filings.
  • Testify at administrative hearings as needed
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in:

  • Theory of human behavior
  • Behavioral health disorders, psychotropic medication and other modalities of treatment
  • Research methods
  • Network of providers in Arizona

Skills in:

  • Evaluating and reviewing data in treatment modalities
  • Administering standardized assessment tools and interpreting results
  • Strong analytical, clinical, writing, reviewing and evaluating treatment goals
  • Evaluating treatment data to assess progress towards goals

Ability to:

  • Apply policy to clinical practice and best practices in the development of policy
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, as well as with a team
  • Demonstrate ability for problem-solving, decision-making, mediation and conflict resolution, building consensus, promoting continuous quality improvement and financial accountability
  • Manage workload and complete tasks in a timely manner
Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work or counseling and 1 year experience providing Behavioral Health consultations and referrals OR
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college in Science, psychology, Social work, counseling or related field and 3+ years experience providing Behavioral Health consultations and referrals
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459.
  • A.R.S. 41-1968 Employee shall have a valid, unrestricted Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-1758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults, prior to the start of their employment.
  • In-state travel is required. Driver's License Requirements Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
  • Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency's ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.

Retirement:

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred retirement investments.
