At Applied Maintenance Supplies and Solutions (MSS)/a division of Applied Industrial, the Account Manager/Outside Sales role has an immediate impact on our customers, on our company performance, and on personal earnings. This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong outside sales representative who thrives in consultative sales and has some knowledge of industrial products. 

Position Summary

Achieve operational objectives through effective leadership through communication and applying supply chain and purchasing strategies. The Buyer is responsible for inventory management and procurement requirements for distribution center for incoming and outgoing distribution center product lines. Buyer reports to the Supply Chain Manager.

Position Responsibilities

  • Forecast and purchase assigned products for resale at the most effective cost level and ensure the product is shipped and received with the least cycle time.
  • Responsible for assigned product inventories in accordance with policy to maximize investment while retaining customer commitments.  Maintain consignment programs when applicable.
  • Review and maintain open supplier orders, intercompany orders, and backorders.  Perform expediting when required.
  • Process and review orders and review invoices for accuracy to ensure supplier adherence to purchase agreement, terms and pricing.
  • Prepare and analyze reports and determine requirements for continuous improvement of inventory turns and customer service levels.  Take immediate corrective action when required.
  • Negotiate special terms and conditions with suppliers where appropriate.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to resolve problems and improve purchasing, inventory and logistical processes that optimize supply chain management.
  • Process special buys to achieve corporate objectives.
  • Respond to field requests for order placement, competitive pricing, anticipated delivery dates, special orders and expediting assistance.
  • Process supplier orders utilizing the overstock screening, centralized corporate order processing, and EDI systems when applicable.
  • Work with field sales representatives to resolve problems, answer and handle complaints in accordance with organization policy.
  • Review supplier acknowledgements and record for future follow-up.
  • Coordinate with product managers, marketing, field sales representatives, and customers for inventory requirements of new and/or special products per program guidelines.
  • Coordinate supplier returns with Inventory Asset Management, Product Managers, Suppliers and Distribution Centers to process supplier returns.
  • Provide advice and assistance to corporate departments as requested.
  • Provide assistance to support accuracy of the product file.
  • Work on special projects or tasks as necessary.
  • Communicate timely and professionally to users, management, and senior leadership
  • Develop standard procedures, user guides, and other necessary training and job aid materials. Provide training / coaching as needed

Skills Required

  • Ability to solve problems in situations where most problems have occurred before and their solutions are familiar, or at least where only little limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to communicate detailed information, frequently involving customer needs and wants.
  • Ability to organize and plan short and long term projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at any one time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization in writing and verbally outside of voice mail.

Training / Education Required

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED.

Experience Required:

  • At least 1+ years of proven supply chain experience

Cost / Expense Control Activities:

  • Maintain and improve working capital through outsourcing, planning, and logistics
  • Travel expenses
