THE ROLE: Corporate responsibility (CR) is an integral aspect of our business and is deeply rooted in our culture. We look at CR holistically to include environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues across our global value chain. Our efforts are prioritized based on risk, opportunities and impacts, and informed by clear goals and metrics. The Senior Manager will be instrumental in advancing the company's CR agenda, specifically monitoring environmental product regulations/standards, advancing circular economy and sustainability, and driving CR management systems. This position reports to the Director of Corporate Responsibility within the Legal Department. The role entails operationalizing CR through cross-functional coordination and governance with various internal teams, including Product Business Units, Engineering, Legal (including Government Relations), Supply Chain, Quality. It interacts with external organizations including industry trade groups, government agencies, standards bodies, customers and suppliers to advance shared interests and outcomes. Key activities entail monitoring key national and international product environmental regulations and standards (i.e., restricted chemicals, energy efficiency), advancing circular economy and sustainability principals (i.e., alternative materials, recycled content) and operationalizing CR management systems through process-driven accountability measures. THE PERSON: You are a high-performance corporate sustainability professional with a strong track record in product stewardship at a multi-national company in the technology sector, preferably semiconductors. You thrive in fast-paced and dynamic environments, enjoy creating structures that operationalize processes, and excel in cross-functional work teams. You are process-driven and outcome-oriented with the ability to layout and execute timelines and adapt to evolving priorities. You have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with stakeholders at various levels. Your advanced communication abilities enable you to listen and learn as you identify and address challenges and opportunities. You are adept at critical and creative thinking to develop and propose clear solutions. Your presentation skills are refined with the ability to succinctly summarize situations, articulate options, and make recommendations. When it comes to execution, you follow-through on commitments and/or escalate unforeseen challenges that may require alternative pathways or resources. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Product Environmental Regulations & Standards:
- Monitor and track external developments in key product environmental regulations and standards that may impact AMD, including:
- Restricted substances - e.g., Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH); Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS); and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
- Waste and packaging - e.g., Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR); Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), and
- Energy efficiency standards – e.g., U.S. ENERGY STAR, EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), and China Energy Label
- Coordinate with Quality and Legal on forthcoming product environmental requirements, and support cross-functional planning efforts helping product engineering and business units implement necessary changes.
- In coordination with Government Relations, support advocacy as needed with government and/or industry groups on forthcoming requirements (i.e., gather input and submit comments), including occasionally engaging business units, customers and suppliers to evaluate business impacts and align on desired outcomes.
- Monitor and track external developments in key product environmental regulations and standards that may impact AMD, including:
- Circular Economy & Sustainability
- Drive strategies to embrace circular economy principals at AMD and across the value chain, including:
- Internal waste reduction initiatives from product and packaging design (i.e., materials selections), shipping strategies, and recycling/composting, and
- External collaborations with suppliers or customers such as sourcing recycled content, identifying alternative chemicals, and evaluating product takeback.
- Participate on select industry workgroups (e.g., Digital Europe, Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), The Green Grid) to monitor product environmental sustainability trends and requirements (e.g., standards, ecolabels).
- Lead circularity efforts related to annual CR reporting, including gathering and analyzing product data, summarizing initiatives and impacts, and informing future strategy.
- Corporate Responsibility (CR) Management Systems
- Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the CR Management System (ISO aligned) to support day-to-day CR functions and integrate CR into business operations, driving accountability and fostering a culture of sustainability across departments.
- Facilitate quarterly internal risk management processes designed to identify emerging developments and potential business impacts stemming from new requirements across suppliers, customers, and the industry.
- Support additional CR sustainability initiatives including climate planning and energy/renewable energy; product sustainability benefits from energy efficiency; and “Go Green” Employee Resource Group activities.
- Strong experience working in or with multinational corporations, preferably in semiconductor or technology sectors.
- Direct experience in product environmental and energy efficiency regulations and standards, circular economy (zero waste, alternative materials) and corporate responsibility/sustainability operations.
- Excellent skills in written/verbal communication, time management, quantitative/analytical and process documentation
- Preferred familiarity in engineering, chemistry or related technical fields
- Able to manage multiple projects in parallel in a dynamic environment
- Influencer willing to drive progress and accountability on long-term, cross functional projects.
