AMD together we advance_

The Research and Advance Development software team is looking for a graduate research associate to work on a single-source modern C++ programming environment based on MLIR for its AIE accelerators.

The software team develops an open-source software stack for AMD AIE CGRA used in various products such as the AMD Ryzen AI PC NPU https://docs.amd.com/r/en-US/am020-versal-aie-ml/AIE-ML-Array-Features

The open-source stack is composed by various layers such as
- https://github.com/nod-ai/iree-amd-aie
- https://github.com/Xilinx/mlir-air
- https://github.com/Xilinx/mlir-aie
- https://github.com/Xilinx/llvm-aie
which allows programming the architecture with MLIR and LLVM mainly with Python or some ML frameworks.

Since C++ is an ubiquitous language and allows to reuse some existing programs or existing kernels already targeting AIE, the AIE++ project aims at developing programming abstractions in modern C++ to target AIE architecture on top of the MLIR AIR and MLIR AIE compiler flow.

There is a new C++ front-end being developed for Clang/LLVM using MLIR https://github.com/llvm/clangir, our team is developing a new programming front-end based on modern C++ to program the NPU in a terse and efficient way. The research associate will work on the development of this programming stack and might be involved in compiler development, open-source contributions, runtime development, application development (scientific computing, machine learning, autonomous driving vehicle, networking, HPC...), debugging, article writing, presentations...

This research associate role involves a lot of collaboration between the internal developers of the different sub-projects but also with contributors from other companies to up-stream some contributions to ClangIR or other projects.

The position is based in Dublin (Bianconi Avenue, Citywest, Dublin, D24 T683,Ireland) and suited typically for master or PhD students in an area related to compilation.

Typical qualifications:

Master or PhD student in Computer Science related to compilation.

Knowledge considered as a plus:
- C++26, meta-programming, STL, Boost
- compilation (Clang/LLVM/MLIR http://llvm.org)
- https://github.com/llvm/clangir
- https://github.com/Xilinx/mlir-aie
- https://github.com/Xilinx/mlir-air
- parallel languages and run-times
- DSL & DSeL
- HPC, real-time applications and libraries
- open-source

Typical tools used:
- open-source software used for C++ development (Clang/LLVM,
  Emacs/VIM,...)
- git & GitHub
- Linux

Length : 6+ months.
