AMD together we advance_

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a skilled and innovative Power Train Design Engineer to lead the development, design, and optimization of a switching regulator power train for AMD's next generation products. This role involves designing high-efficiency, reliable systems for markets such as artificial intelligence, gaming, data centers, or embedded systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in power train design, simulation, and testing with a focus on meeting efficiency, thermal, and performance targets.

THE PERSON:

  • Attention to detail with a focus on reliability and manufacturability.
  • Ability to work in a cross-disciplinary team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to own and drive all simulations associated with the power train.
  • Committed to leading the power train design over the long-term.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, simulate, verify, and optimize the power train (inductors, capacitors, FETs, drive circuitry, etc.) at the transistor-level for high-efficiency power converters.
  • Use tools like Cadence, SPICE, ParagonX, PERC, Totem, Python, Redhawk or similar software to model/verify the power train and evaluate performance metrics, including efficiency, thermal management, and transient response.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to evaluate and enable CAD tools for power train design.
  • Work closely with system architects to integrate the power train in the main control loop(s).
  • Lead layout floorplan of the power train and work closely with layout team on RLC extraction and design optimization.
  • Collaborate with PCB and package designer engineers to ensure compact system layouts.
  • Participate in power train validation.  Analyze results and field data to identify areas for improvement in future designs.
  • Prepare detailed design documents, including schematics, schedule estimations, test plans, and reports to support tape-out and production processes.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in transistor-level power train design, specifically buck converters.
  • Familiarity with the different CAD tools used to evaluate efficiency, thermal management, and transient response.
  • At least one previous power train design in mass production.
  • Prior experience with power train design in high-power applications.
  • Prior experience with FinFET design, including layout.
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment for power train validation.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
