Director Silicon Design Engineer

 

ROLE:


The Infinity Fabric team designs customized interconnects (System IP) for a broad array of AMD products targeting a variety of markets, including traditional servers, high performance computing, client desktop and laptop PCs, machine intelligence, graphics, console gaming, embedded, and customer-specific applications.
AMD seeks a passionate, collaborative leader with strong technical skills and the initiative to motivate an expert team. This role involves managing a silicon design engineering group, matrixed ownership of project execution, as well as engaging, collaborating and innovating with internal and external partners. This position offers deep exposure to industry leading Server, Datacenter, Graphics, Gaming, AI/ML products and related technologies.
THE PERSON:
You are a leader, self-starter & a fast-learner who works effectively in a cross-matrixed, fast paced environment. You have proven experience leading others in technical and managerial capacity with a strong background in microprocessor and ASIC design process from concept to production. You have driven global and complex engineering programs with a collaborative mindset. You possess exceptional verbal, written, and communication skills as well as strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage and grow a high-performance silicon design engineering team, nurturing the talent.
• Responsible for leading key Fabric IP design projects as well as Fabric component design development across multiple AMD roadmap products, ensuring timely deliverables of design and documentation collateral as per project milestones.
• Lead and guide the teams to solve problems requiring cutting edge approaches as well as champion innovation across the organization.
• Engage with external and internal customers as a technical subject matter expert (SME) as needed for architectural exploration, IP design liaison, supporting technical inquiries or connecting the appropriate IP SMEs and to ensure they are addressed.
• Assist the leadership in pivotal data-driven decision-making with the unified matrix models to determine and prioritize IP execution strategies based on various on-going project schedules/commitments, early top-down scoping for new project proposals, highlighting risks, challenges & skills gaps.
• Actively represent or support leadership to represent the team in appropriate AMD design quality & TTM improvement initiatives/forums. Engage and collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive improvements to internal processes, methodologies, tools, and capabilities to sustainably deliver high-quality IP design solutions.
• Facilitate & assist timely tactical decision-making for leadership on execution challenges & risk mitigation against unforeseen delays, project scope-creep, late discovery of bugs, etc.
• Facilitate periodic technical meeting series & technical summits between lead designers and architects – collecting and setting agenda as well as tracking AIs to completion.
• Facilitate periodic meetings for the broader team for pass-downs, roadmap awareness, new initiatives, etc. including assisting with the preparation & dissemination of communications and planning team building events.
• Coaches and mentors experienced staff.


REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
• 20+ years of technical experience in microprocessor or GPU designs with direct experience in memory subsystems.
• Proven project management experience on complex silicon design projects enabling multiple customers with unique requirements in parallel.
• Highly organized, able to prioritize, and juggle multiple work streams to deliver on schedule.
• Team player with proven people management and leadership skills. Ability to foster a positive, innovative, execution-oriented team culture.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both internal, executive, and customer facing interactions.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills along with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to network, build relationships, consensus and drive effective decision-making across multiple sites, functions, and levels within the organization.
• Ability to flex responsibilities over the development lifecycle.
