THE ROLE: 

At AMD we push the boundaries of what is possible. We drive innovation in power and performance and immersive graphics, creating a new experience for users. This position entails architecting, coding, debugging, upstreaming platform BIOS features with a goal of developing competitive and innovative reference design products for multiple internal and external customers. A successful candidate will employ solid software methodologies, firmware design expertise, have deep technical knowledge and well-honed organizational skills. The candidate will interact across multiple teams to ensure on schedule, defect-free system firmware, push product development and reduce AMD's time to market. A candidate must possess technical proficiency and interpersonal confidence to represent design ideas to complex problem descriptions and innovative solutions with other developers as well as non-firmware focused silicon teams. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Port UEFI EDK2 Tiano core code to x86 based AMD reference and OEM customer designs 
  • Develop UEFI BIOS code to support features and customizations that distinguish the customer platforms from the competition 
  • Work directly with OEMs collecting product requirements, developing new features and work collaboratively on debug investigations 
  • Work with worldwide engineering teams on hardware and firmware issues from pre-BIOS bring up, board bring up, feature enablement, bug triage/resolution and through product sustaining 
  • Work closely with internal UEFI/Firmware teams and silicon IP owners for problem analysis & debug 
  • Develop and drive best practices within the BIOS development team 
  • Effectively communicate BIOS development and debug status to key internal/external stakeholders 
  • Produce internal documentation for feature development, debugging and testing results 
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of the internal & customer BIOS development processes

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Expert C programmer 
  • Low-level hardware experience 
  • Strong debug methodology and analytical skills 
  • Expert in BIOS architecture and execution flow 
  • Expert in UEFI architecture and able to code within the UEFI framework 
  • Expert in x86 architecture (a plus if experienced in AMD x86) 
  • Expert in ACPI architecture and coding 
  • Knowledge of hardware interfaces (SATA, AHCI, DDR, PCIe, SPI, I2C) 
  • Expert knowledge of software development process methodology 
  • Knowledge of industry standard initiatives such as (UEFI, ACPI, SMBIOS, PCIe) 
  • Expert working knowledge of different flavors of Git source version control 
  • Prior years of experience in UEFI BIOS development 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other relevant field
