About the Role:

Do you enjoy working with a wide variety of people? We are seeking an experienced safety professional to join the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team at Alcoa Portland Aluminium. We have a permanent ongoing role. This position will report to the Health & Safety Supervisor, the Safety Co-Ordinator is responsible for providing safety knowledge and advice to all levels within the business.

In this varied role, other responsibilities include:

  • the support and use of tools to drive behavioural safety change,

  • co-ordinating the direction of specific safety policies, programs and initiatives, and

  • successfully meeting the objectives of the Safety Business Plan.

  • Supporting the line management and the EHS Manager in ensuring mandatory and regulatory reporting and auditing requirements are met.

The Safety Co-Ordinator works with people at all levels of our Smelter to systematically eliminate workplace risks and hazards utilising various techniques and tools including training, systems management and continuous business improvement processes.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Formal EHS / Risk Management qualifications and / or experience,

  • Cert IV WHS

  • A proven record and demonstrated commitment to Environmental Health & Safety / Risk Management values and principles,

  • Strong influencing, coaching and interpersonal skills,

  • Experience in heavy industry will be considered advantageous.

About the Location

Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%).
