About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our Regional Engineering and Maintenance team as a Principal Mechanical Engineer. This challenging position offers a unique opportunity to lead and shape the future of maintenance and engineering practices across Alcoa's Refineries, Smelter, and Mines in Australia.

In this pivotal role, you will provide maintenance and engineering functional leadership and will be the key contact for all aspects of asset management. With your drive for continuous improvement, you will be promoting reliability best practices and will contribute to the business by:

  • Leading the implementation of Reliability Excellence (REX) through the transfer of best practices.

  • Serving as the primary point of contact for all aspects of asset management in your designated region or area of expertise.

  • Providing technical support for mechanical assets to ensure optimal availability and reliability.

  • Collaborating with global teams to develop and implement asset strategies, reliability frameworks, and roadmaps.

  • Leading and supporting initiatives to improve the overall cost position of Alcoa locations through effective asset management.

  • Working across diverse locations, managing and coordinating objectives in multi-cultural and multi-language environments.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Procurement, Technology, ITAS, and others.

  • Travelling globally to support and influence maintenance and engineering standards across Alcoa's operations.

  • Building strong relationships with plant staff, establishing a network that supports the execution of maintenance and engineering objectives.

What you can bring to the role

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a background in heavy industry maintenance and engineering roles within a complex mining, refining or smelting environment.

  • Multi-location or global experience in technical reliability leadership.

  • Detailed knowledge and expertise in mechanical assets and one or more specific SME areas.

  • Experienced in developing organisational and site-level reliability strategies/frameworks and roadmaps.

  • Excellent communication, consulting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
