About the role:

The Process Plant Operator is responsible for operating plant equipment based on accepted company procedures. Operator is responsible for monitoring and optimization of all production process variables, ensuring that all equipment is operating at peak reliability and efficiency.

Major activities/Key challenges:

  • Comply with Alcoa safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively support health, environment, and safety processes by performing daily activities within applicable regulations and policies, maintaining a safe working environment, and being prepared to respond to environmental or safety events.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and repair gypsum dewatering and wastewater production equipment.
  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system to create work orders for inventory and work planning/prioritization.
  • Report safety and quality of equipment maintenance items to the supervisor.
  • Monitor all process variables and make necessary adjustments in the processing plant based on quality specifications.
  • Start up and shut down belts, compressors, and pumps.
  • Operate and monitor the dewatering belt.
  • Maintain regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating on-call shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic computer literacy, including knowledge of computer software.
  • Training or certification in a relevant skill or trade.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Awareness of EEO issues related to the facility.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, prioritizing, and time management skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with different types of people at all levels of the organization.

Essential Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Ability to be exposed to sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable.
  • Withstand exposure to temperature extremes inside and out.
  • Prolonged standing or remaining in a stationary position.
  • Complete repetitive movements.
  • Bend and/or twist.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities.
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision, and hardhat protection).
