The Portland Aluminium Smelter, a unique operation and Alcoa's sole smelting facility in Australia. This operation is unlike other Alcoa locations as it is a joint venture project with Alcoa being the largest shareholder. Located in a picturesque seaside town in Victoria, this role offers a distinctive opportunity to lead and manage a significant part of site operations.

About the Role:

As the Metals Manager, you will oversee the following key areas and its people in the Smelting operation:

The Potroom and Potlining Operations – electrolytic smelting and cell relining and replacement.

The Ingot Mill Operations - compressed air generation facilities.

The Switchyard - power distribution to all operation areas

The role is accountable for the safety culture and an ongoing commitment to safety performance outcomes. As an integral part of the Site Leadership team, the incumbent will also contribute to:

  • The annual operating plan and budget ensuring alignment of team goals to achieve objectives

  • Continuous review of production targets and operational performance to improve strategies and business plans to maximise returns

  • Ongoing collaboration with joint venture stakeholders to ensure a unified approach to plant and market objectives

  • Managers rotating weekend on-call roster

  • Leading and inspiring a large and diverse team

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Process, Chemical or Metallurgical)

  • Industry experience in manufacturing and/or resources with proven leadership skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of building, developing, and inspiring successful teams.

  • A solid understanding and application of Environmental Health & Safety leadership.

  • Experience in managing budgets, production strategies, and project planning.

  • Experience in change management and sustained employee engagement.

  • A passion for networking and building beneficial relationships within the wider business.

About the Location

Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%).
