About the Role:

We seek interest for a permanent opportunity supporting our WA Operations in the role of a High Voltage (HV) Switching Trainer. You will specialise in the coordination and execution of the training and development plan for all our HV Operators, the role based out of our Pinjarra Refinery.

Our Refineries, Mine Sites and Port Facility all have HV electrical power distribution systems – incorporating approximately 500 transformers, with power being distributed at up to 33kV, and our safe operating procedures allowing four levels of authority.

This is a rewarding yet challenging role where you can set your training regimes within the parameters of the legislation, business needs, and reauthorisation targets of our personnel. Travel within WA Operations is required and is determined by this also.

Other elements and accountability in the role are:

  • Ensuring all high voltage operators within the WA operation are aware of their requirements in respect to Alcoa's HV safety and operating procedures.

  • Utilise and maintain competency-based assessment standards supporting the authorisation, and subsequent reauthorisation of Operators.

  • Update training documentation to reflect changes in Maintenance practices, policy changes and Legislative requirements.

  • Provide HV technical support for switching operators across WA sites

  • Collaborate with the WA Operations HV Lead Team on all aspects of Training and HV switching programs.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • TAE40110 or TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment would be highly regarded.

  • Qualifications in Electrical Trade or Engineering is essential.

  • Solid experience as an Electrical Engineer or Trades person, ideally in a role exposed to a requirement to perform high voltage operator duties in an industrial environment

  • Deep commitment to health and safety of personnel, standards, and of the interface of the two with equipment.

  • Good communication skills, hands-on instructional guidance

  • Ability to problem solve and use key learning to ensure solved to root cause
