About the Role:

Along with providing expert advice, in this largely field-based role, you'll be carrying out daily inspections and quality control audits of the Exploration Group's survey and drilling activities. You will ensure that we are working safely and efficiently, while also fulfilling the ARP (Alcoa Responsible Person) obligations and ensuring compliance with Alcoa's EHS and QAQC standards, expectations and regulatory obligations, including the Work Health and Safety Act (2020).  

We have the opportunity for two Field Technicians to join Alcoa's Exploration group to complete daily inspections, and pre-drilling and post-drilling area inspections whilst also providingexpert support for the machine control, communications and data collection hardware and systems. Key areas of focus include:

  • Daiy drill rig inpsections and audits

  • Safety assessment of areas prior to drilling.

  • Data collection using survey equipment.

  • Completion of test programs designed by the Exploration Geologists.

  • Troubleshooting of daily issues,

  • Implementing upgrades or new hardware and firmware and

  • The ongoing tracking or logging of issues to identify improvement opportunities.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Minimum Cert IV in Surveying or Field Technician or a related field (Diploma is desirable)

  • Previous experience working in an Exploration survey or drilling environment coupled with a clear understanding of drilling procedures and processes.

  • Demonstrated experience in machine control support.

  • Strong understanding of mapping systems and surveying processes.

  • Must be proficient with and comfortable using IT, understand Microsoft Suite as well as android applications. Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro is desirable.

  • Self-motivation and initiative to be able to work autonomously, following through to completion

  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and ability to follow process.

  • Excellent safety track record.

  • Good planning and organising skills.

About the Location

Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world's second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa's Pinjarra alumina refinery.
