The Environmental Advisor – Flora and Vegetation will provide on-site and project management support for all flora and vegetation assessments to inform mine plan development and approvals for Alcoa's WA Mining Operations. Reporting to the Mining Studies Manager, this position requires strong project management and contractor liaison skills. The incumbent will be responsible for communicating the importance of new flora and vegetation survey processes across WA mining.

This exciting opportunity to develop and implement biodiversity programs across Alcoa's Mining Operations, will be offered on a family friendly Monday to Friday roster, where you can be home every night – spending more time with friends and family. The position is based at Pinjarra hub offices and will involve some site travel to our Huntly Mining operations.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Managing consultants conducting specialist flora and vegetation studies, including baseline, targeted, and monitoring studies required for approvals and various business needs.

  • Supporting WA Mining in change management by effectively communicating and ensuring new procedures are followed and implemented across sites in accordance with Alcoa's Flora and Vegetation Management Plan.

  • Developing an understanding of study prioritization, scope writing, contractor procurement, field supervision, data outputs, and report QAQC and storage by assisting the Environmental Specialist - Flora and Vegetation and other Mining Studies Team members.

  • Ensuring complete and timely record keeping and data collection. Maintaining consistency in all data, records, and reports received.

  • Maintaining the flora and vegetation database.

  • Supporting WA Mining in flora and vegetation study requirements.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Ideally you will have a bachelor's degree in environmental science, Conservation Biology or related disciplines, or post-graduate qualifications in Botany or relevant field experience.

  • Ideally you will have previous experience in flora and vegetation related work. (field based, or data configuration would be ideal)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Minesite experience desirable.

  • Demonstrate experience in ensuring safe working practices.

  • Project and Contractor Management desirable.

  • Strong self-management skills/well organised.

  • A current Australian Driver's Licence and able to undertake 4x4 driving in bushland if required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated experience developing positive and effective working relationships.

About the Location

Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world's second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa's Pinjarra alumina refinery.
