About the role
The Capital Project Engineer is part of the Warrick Capital Project team and is accountable for plant capital project delivery. This position is responsible for delivering quality engineering outcomes within Alcoa's capital program for Warrick's projects. Key responsibilities include early-stage development, project execution planning, execution activities coordination, project team membership, quality control management, and Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) management. This position reports to the site Capital Project Manager.
Major activities/Key challenges
Early stages development:
- Project creation/development in capex management system
- Review/support project boundary criteria
- Business case review and challenge
- Validate designs are compatible with Alcoa Operational and Maintenance strategies
- Deliver clear business cases supported with data
- Provide project order of magnitude and estimated schedule
- Ensure key stakeholders' involvement in early stages
- Deliver options analysis and recommendations
- Facilitate project total cost estimation (±30%)
- Execute/participate in Value Improvement (VI) activities
- Involve Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and procurement team timely
Project execution plan:
- Deliver a clear project execution plan
- Deliver the project schedule
- Determine the project team structure
- Identify Engineering Services Provider (ESP) services required
- Coordinate planning with plant operations
Execution and activities coordination:
- Maximize re-use of engineering and application of lessons learned
- Improve engineering design practices and share best practices
- Assign work to complete engineering and project execution
- Coordinate activities with production/maintenance/EHS team
- Monitor and report on project progress
- Control project costs and provide monthly forecasts
- Follow up on VI action plans
- Manage project changes
Project team member:
- Communicate with SPA and other project stakeholders
- Support the capital project manager on authorization requests and forecasts
- Manage project team, including ESP personnel
Quality Control
- Ensure site-specific drawing and engineering standards are followed
- Participate in project audits and peer reviews
- Ensure quality project deliverables
- Consider Alcoa Engineering Standard and Capital Process standard
Environment, Health, and Safety Management:
- Validate design processes to identify hazards and risks
- Determine appropriate EHS supervision level for each project

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technical Discipline
- Proficiency in English
- 2+ years of experience in an industrial environment with project experience
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management Certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2)
- 5+ years of experience in an industrial environment with project experience
- Experience with capital project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera)
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodologies
- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams
- Proficiency in risk management and mitigation strategies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with regulatory compliance and standards in the industrial sector
