Description
Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy TechnicianI assists the Pharmacist by performing assignments relative to the handling and distribution of pharmaceuticals and related clerical tasks as identified below.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Runs Robot to fill unit dose cassettes according to cart exchange schedule.
- Delivers and picks up medication to and from the nursing units, adhering to the scheduled timeframes and protocols. (Including Cart exchanges.
- Fills floor stock requisitions and adjusts inventory to par level as applicable according to unit floor stock par level.
- Charges and credits for floor stock in timely manner.
- Maintains dispensing areas with adequate supplies during shift. Visual inventory performed after workflow to ensure adequate stock for next shift (including paper/labels levels).
- Maintains overall cleanliness of the department. Visual inspection performed after workflow to ensure neatness of work area.
- Performs monthly department inspections.
- Assists in the maintenance of Emergency Department medication cart/night cart and code boxes.
- Performs routine inspections in approved medication storage areas within hospital on a monthly basis or as directed.
- Assists Pharmacist in the manufacturing of sterile products and related functions supporting this area.
- Prepares SPD orders and places order into stock during shift.
- Effectively communicates with peers and Pharmacist routinely during shift.
- Acts as a liaison between purchasing with regard to pharmaceutical purchases on a daily basis. Communicates effectively with purchasing agent in regards to medication activity.
- Performs bulk manufacturing and repackaging activities as needed.
- Maintains stock in Robot/restocks off-line Robot inventory.
- Answers telephones and assists at the window. Attend to customers in a timely manner. Ability to triage without aid of Pharmacist
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE
- One year on the job training or a graduate of an approved Pharmacy Technician training program required.
EDUCATION
- High school or equivalent.
OTHER
- Basic understanding of units of measure and arithmetic and general clerical skills to include typing and filing; excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
