Description

Lung Transplant Fellowship

We are currently accepting applications for our one-year Lung Transplant Fellowship training program that starts July 1, 2024.

UT Southwestern Medical Center is one of the world's foremost research institutions and a major academic center in Texas. It is ranked #1 in Texas and listed on the Honor Roll of the nation's best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Lung Transplant Program recently achieved the milestone of 1,000 lung transplants performed. We continue to consistently achieve one-year survival rates over 92% and three-year survivals over 70%.

The Lung Transplant Fellowship is an advanced program that balances outstanding clinical training with experience in clinical and translational research. The fellowship will provide comprehensive training and experience in all aspects of lung transplantation, including evaluation of transplant candidates, surveillance bronchoscopies, donor calls and peri-operative management of lung transplant recipients, with in depth training in inpatient and outpatient management of lung transplant recipients. The Fellow will have intensive interaction with the patients and will learn procedures under the supervision of experienced lung transplant faculty. During the fellowship year, experience will be gained in the management of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) mechanical circulatory support. The Fellow will also have hands-on experience learning to use the ex vivo platform to harvest organs.

UT Southwestern Medical Center prides itself on training Fellows to become outstanding physician-educators and moving the field forward through research. The applicant should have completed fellowship training in either Pulmonary Disease or Critical Care Medicine, or a combined Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship. We routinely accept individuals on the the J1 visa.
