Description

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Special Collections Librarian will assist patrons in using Special Collections materials; participate in the design of formal instruction activities within the unit; provide reference services; and manage the Nebula Gallery.

Assist patrons in the use of the collections within the Special Collections unit including the Wineburgh Philatelic Library, the Rare Books Collection, the Louise B. Belsterling Botanical Collection, and the University Archives. Provide formal library instruction on the use of the materials. Develop and maintain research guides and other online materials to support the UTD community. Manages the Nebula Gallery.

Provide exceptional customer service in person and by telephone. Expertise in standard office conditions and repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation; work as a team member and individually; work under pressure of deadlines. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution; experience in working with an integrated library system, preferably ExLibris' Alma; excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Education and Experience

Working knowledge of an academic library systems and discovery tools including the library catalog, various databases, and ArchivesSpace. Coursework or experience demonstrating library materials within Special Collections; experience providing excellent customer service; and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide in-person and online information assistance to the UT Dallas community for all Special Collections materials. Participate in library instruction as appropriate. Assist with programming and event planning for Special Collections. Manage the Nebula Gallery located in McDermott Library.

Occasional night or weekend work. Work will be performed on-site and in person.
