The University of Texas at Dallas has an excellent job opportunity for individuals looking to join the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science team as an Associate Financial Analyst.

Reporting to the Financial Analyst, the Associate Financial Analyst will assist in supporting the fiscal operations of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state requirements. This position is responsible for account maintenance, account reconciliation, service center billing, external revenue collections, check deposits, graduate scholarships, assisting with day-to-day financial operations across departments, and other monetary requests. The Associate Financial Analyst will also provide budget analysis and reports for academic and research entities to optimize financial planning and decision-making.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other Business area. Two years of experience in Accounting, Budget or other Financial area or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Business acumen, leadership capabilities, ability to think strategically and analytically. Experience in providing innovation and problem solving; excellent oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. Requires extreme accuracy in all phases of work.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. 2-3 years of experience in finance or accounting with experience in data analytics, forecasting, financial analysis, sponsored research administration, and project management is preferred. 3-5 years of experience using Peoplesoft Financials. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications with intermediate to advanced skills in Excel. Possess strong critical thinking, analytical, and computation skills. Self-starter who can proactively identify and troubleshoot issues proficiently and successfully complete complex tasks with minimal supervision. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excels at attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and communicate effectively with colleagues, leadership, and university partners. Competent in interpreting and appropriately applying university and school rules, regulations, procedures, and functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Apply data analytics to provide budget and resource assessments.
  • Prepare complex financial reports for forecasting and trend analysis.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations with summary reports.
  • Submit ECS Graduate Scholarships and maintain guideline updates.
  • Process internal billing for monthly Service Center usage.
  • Track collections and accounts receivable for external sales invoices.
  • Manage all related cash handling and gift deposits.
  • Review pending encumbrances for purchase order close-out.
  • Research procurement and other financial-related issues to resolve discrepancies.
  • Process intradepartmental transfers, budget adjustments, revenue and expense corrections, and other accounting entries.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls to ensure compliance and integrity of University resources.
  • Assist in the development of new processes and procedures.
  • Attend campus-wide HR, Payroll, Budget, Procurement, and Finance meetings for updates on policies and procedures.
  • Complete annual training for professional development.
  • Perform other duties assigned.


Additional Information

Hybrid Remote Work Notice:
After the appropriate training period, this position may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area for prompt arrival on campus with a 24-hour notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and reapproval and may be canceled.
