$4,000.00 sign on bonus may be available for qualified candidates with a two–year work commitment, in accordance with UVA policy.
Performs direct care to patients undergoing renal dialysis treatments and administrative support functions under the supervision of a Health Care Provider (licensed practitioner of medicine or RN). Demonstrates the technical skills to prepare and monitor the equipment used for hemodialysis.
- Performs skills as delegated and in accordance with policy, procedure and competency to promote patient health and wellness.
- Maintains necessary skills and competencies to perform the clinical functions related to dialysis.

- Supports Renal Services standards related to the hemodialysis environment.

- Assists in assuring effective and efficient operations while maintaining consistent and accurate communication with team members, providers, and patients.
- Assists with data collection for physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of patients according to professional practice standards and institutional policy/procedure.
- Organizes and prioritizes daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency.
- Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care.
- Reinforces patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the condition and age of the patient through approved educational materials or written instructions.
- As directed and in accordance with documented competencies, provides clinical support to licensed healthcare professionals during examinations and procedures. Clinical support services include but are not limited to preparing laboratory specimens, performing testing (i.e. point of care testing, CLIA waived testing ECG/EKG, spirometry, venipuncture/phlebotomy, specimen collection, etc.), appropriate cleaning and sterilization of instruments/equipment and rooms, disposing of contaminated supplies, performing simple non–medicated wound care/dressing changes or assisting with complex wound care/dressing changes.
- Document and capture charges for clinical support services rendered within the patient visit.
- Performs administrative support responsibilities. As directed and in accordance with documented competencies, provides administrative support to licensed healthcare professionals. Administrative support services include but are not limited to draft letters and/or assist with completion of forms, facilitate scheduling, assist with clinic/chart prep.
- Recognizes the importance of time sensitive issues.
- Assumes responsibility for professional development of self and others according to departmental policy.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
Experience: Previous health care experience preferred.
Licensure: Certified as a Patient Care Dialysis Technician by a State Agency or Nationally Recognized Certification Program within 18 months of hire date. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Criteria for use of the titles of dialysis patient care technician or dialysis care technician. In order to use the titles of dialysis patient care technician or dialysis care technician or administer medications in a Medicare certified renal dialysis facility, a person shall hold one of the following certifications: 1. Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC); 2. Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) by the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT); 3. Certified in Clinical Nephrology Technology (CCNT) by the National Nephrology Certification Organization (NNCO); or 4. Certification or licensure as a dialysis technician or similar title by another jurisdiction in the United States provided the standards for certification or licensure or substantially equivalent to those in Virginia.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling; Repetitive motion: Building dialysis machines and wrist rotation. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 ? 100lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
