Director of Pediatrics/Pediatric ICU
Monday-Friday plus call

The Pediatric Unit at UMC Children's Hospital is a 25 bed unit, serving patient's ages 0-20. A nurse in our Pedi unit will be able to grow and learn in a team-oriented atmosphere where medical and surgical care is provided using a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach. Combining the talents of more than 30 specialists and subspecialists, children at UMC are treated for a wide range of needs that can include trauma, general surgery, cardiology, neurology and neurological surgery, oncology/ hematology, endocrinology, and burn care. The nurses on Pediatrics possess a desire to serve children and families in our service-oriented atmosphere.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a level 2 trauma center at UMC Children's Hospital is a 16 bed unit, serving patient's ages 0-20 suffering life threatening illnesses or injuries. An RN in our PICU will learn and gain experience in a family centered atmosphere where medical and surgical care is provided using a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach. Combining the talents of more than 30 specialists and sub-specialists, children at UMC are treated for a wide range of needs that can include trauma, general surgery, cardiology, neurology and neurological surgery, oncology/hematology, endocrinology, and burn care.

Plans, supervises and evaluates patient care and nursing personnel of a specific nursing unit on a 24-hour basis. In compliance with the Philosophy of the Department of Nursing, will be responsible for operations of a specific nursing unit to ensure quality patient care, competent and responsible personnel management and cost efficient and effective utilization of unit resources. Serves as a mentor and role model for staff. Responsible to ensure department aligns to Hospital and Nursing strategic plan staff in UMC initiatives. Has a working knowledge of organizational and nursing policies.

-Unit rounding, real-time feedback and problem resolution. Promote
staff certifications.
-Allow scheduling considerations for those pursuing continuing
education.
-Identify high performers and provide opportunities for growth( i.e.
pathways to leadership, conference attendance, level 5 leadership,
committee participation).
-Adheres to responses timelines set forth by compliance personnel.
-Golden Hour Rounding, service recovers, high/middle/low, review and
share patient comments and scores, etc. Respond within 7 days to RL
reports.
• Participates in UMC Committee Structure
o Sit on hospital-wide committee or initiative
o Presets information at NDC and Leadership Council
o Conducts 10 staff meetings/year
o Attends NDC 2/month
o Attends Leadership Council 1/month

QUALIFICATIONS:

-Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
-Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License
-Must maintain a current BLS certification from American Heart Association
-MSN required
-Minimum of 5 years of RN experience required
-Previous leadership/management experience required
-Pediatrics/Pediatric ICU experience preferred
-Certification preferred and encouraged
