Summary of Job Duties: The Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant PRN will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive care to critically ill surgical patients in the intensive care setting. They will collaborate with attending physicians, surgeons, residents and nurses to implement individualized care plans. They will require excellent clinical skills, and a passion for patient-centered care. The APRN/PA PRN will be responsible for managing care of patients, participating in multidisciplinary rounds, assisting in the development and implementation of evidence-based clinical guidelines and protocols, and participating in QI initiatives to enhance patient outcomes. The APRN/PA PRN must have a high level of expertise to perform assessments/diagnosis/treatment of actual/potential problems of patients.
Qualifications:

APRN Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree Plus Two (2) years nursing experience with Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas; APRN/CPN License

  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment. 

PA Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of Physician Assistant program with a PA license with State Medical Board.

  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of nursing experience


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • The APRN/PA will manage health issues for patients, independently or in collaboration with the designated physicians. Other duties may be assigned to expand and improve patient care.

  • The APRN/PA will be expected to provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, prescribe medical treatments, and manage health issues for patients in collaboration with the designated physician(s).

  • The APRN/PA will work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of medical professional individuals.

  • The APRN/PA will extend the patient care and administrative services of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences physicians in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • The APRN/PA will supervise their assigned group with duties that include but are not limited to: conducting annual evaluations, approving final schedules, participating in disciplinary issues, and collaborating with service line physicians and nursing administration to best allocate APRN resources.

  • The APRN/PA will work autonomously, as well as, in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patients' health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.

  • The APRN/PA will also coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate.

  • Interacts with, and assists, the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed.

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.

  • Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments

  • follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines.

  • Assists internal and external stakeholders, as needed, with exceptional customer service.

  • Other duties as assigned.
