Summary of Job Duties: The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) will be responsible for delivering comprehensive healthcare services to women during the antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal periods. In addition, the APRN will engage in well-woman care, health education, contraceptive counseling, and management of episodic and chronic illnesses. This position presents an exciting opportunity to enhance the health of women in Phillips, Lee, and Crittendon counties.

We are seeking a dynamic individual who is committed to providing community-based care, as the APRN will travel throughout Phillips, Lee, and Crittendon counties to offer healthcare services to women. Responsibilities will include conducting health examinations, as well as providing education and counseling on various health topics. The APRN will also be trained to deliver group prenatal care as a CenteringPregnancy® provider.

The APRN will work in a collaborative practice with UAMS physicians, nursing staff, and residents, ensuring the seamless delivery of care to this population of women. They will be responsible for coordinating the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consultations, and ensuring timely and appropriate care. Independence in consultation and billing of inpatient and outpatient consultations will be expected. The position also provides an opportunity for clinical research, based on the applicant's training and interest. The APRN will hold National Certification approved for practice in the state of AR. This position is largely community-based and will require work during evening hours and occasional weekends. This position will provide care on a mobile health unit and will necessitate regular travel.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing
  • Two (2) years of experience as APRN, preferred experience in prenatal care and women's health
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas; APRN. National Certification recognized by the state of AR for practice.
  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Evening and weekend work will be required.  Frequent travel is required as the position is primarily community-based. The mileage rate will be reimbursed based on a state-approved reimbursement rate.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Advanced clinical knowledge and skills in women's health, including antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal care, with a strong understanding of family planning methods, contraceptive counseling, and well-woman care.
  • Ability to provide health education and promote wellness.
  • Proficient in conducting comprehensive health exams and risk assessments for women.
  • Collaborative and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly consult and bill for consultations.
  • Interest and potential for engaging in clinical research.
  • Commitment to providing care in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the UAMS.
  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.
  • Must have normal communication sensory requirement.
  • Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, and EKG machines).

  • Two (2) years of experience providing prenatal/OB care and women's health.
  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license obtained prior to hire.
  • Women's Health or Family Nurse Practitioner certification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gathers information systematically and skillfully from all sources for both new and established patients: prenatal, perinatal, past medical history, diagnostic tests, comprehensive physical examination, behavioral, developmental, psychosocial assessments, differentiating between normal and abnormal variations for all body systems and accurately interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process in the assessment and identification of patient/family long and short-term physical, psychological, educational, and cultural needs for assigned patient populations.
  • Provides ongoing and follow-up care and patient/family education.
  • Provides care on mobile health units, at community-based locations, and during home visits with clients.
  • Provides group prenatal care as a CenteringPregnancy® facilitator in community-based locations.
  • Accurately interprets health assessment data and applies findings in directing patient care.
  • Utilizes knowledge and expertise when planning long and short-term care, including appropriate pharmacologic and diagnostic treatments as needed.
  • Documents all health data and plans of care according to policy.
  • Evaluation of patient/family response to the plan of care through systematic follow-up.
  • Documentation of the patient/family outcomes, reassessing and modifying the plan as needed to achieve health goals.
  • Accurately completes all billing forms, including diagnostic (ICD-9) and treatment (CPT) codes, based on federal and state laws in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with referring physicians, allied health providers, and hospital staff as appropriate.
  • Provides education, coaching, and guidance to care coordinators/community health workers who assist with patient care. 
  • Provides clinical leadership at mobile health clinics with licensed and support staff.
  • Training and mentoring of new staff and providers.
  • Provides training and coaching support to multi-disciplinary staff in CenteringPregnancy, group-based prenatal care, and reproductive healthcare. 
  • Assists with creating educational presentations and provides group education and skills training to providers, health care teams, and community groups. 
  •  Participates in QI and QA activities.
  •  May perform other duties as assigned.
