Schedule: Full time, evening shift on weekdays with rotating weekends

Main Function:

  • The Evening Shift Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the laboratory during the evening shift.
  • This position helps to provide administrative, fiscal, quality improvement and operational oversight of the services of the main laboratory on evening shift.
  • This supervisor will facilitate teamwork both within the laboratory as well as with other departments in the health system and outside customers.
  • The supervisor will work closely with the section chiefs and the laboratory management team to support the mission and strategic imperatives of both the Clinical Laboratory Department and the Health System.
  • This supervisor serves as the technical advisor for lab processes on this shift.
  • This supervisor is a working supervisor who also performs the general duties required of a medical technologist as staffing requires.

Required Job Specific Competencies:

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills for the operation of instrumentation in section.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to ensure the quality of the processes of testing specimens in section
  • Computer skills are essential, including use of excel and word programs.
  • Demonstrates good decision making and ability to focus and prioritize while performing multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrates understanding of state and federal regulations (NYS/JCAHO) and the ability to keep operations compliant.
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with all lab teams, departments and medical staff.
  • High standard of medical and business ethics.
  • Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to that of patients, staff, and the health system.
  • Actively supports the quality improvement process.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
  • Promotes judicial use of supplies and personnel and assists the department in meeting budgetary expectations.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills, professional manner and excellent communication.
  • Adherence to all department and system policies as well as to all laboratory safety procedures.
  • Punctuality and a good attendance record.
  • Lives the CARES values at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Technologist with current NYS license
  • Bachelors degree, Medical Technology
  • Preferred ASCP certification
  • 6 years of clinical lab experience required.
  • General lab experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred

Complexity of Duties:

  • Supervision of technical staff and pre-analytical staff and daily operations.
  • Initiation of alternative testing when in house testing not available.
  • Responsible for advanced troubleshooting and repairing instruments/problems; working with Technical Section Chiefs or hotline.
  • Responsible for working to resolve personnel issues.
  • Involvement with Management team to ensure JCAHO and NYS compliance of policies, procedures and lab specific instructions to stated regulations.
  • Works with other lab team leaders to provide quality service in the collection, registration, test orders and reports of specimens processed by the clinical laboratory.

Supervisory Responsibility/Supervision Received:

  • Works under general supervision of Director of Laboratory Services.
  • Supervises 4-5 MT/MLT
  • Assists with providing oversight to 3-4 phlebotomists/lab processing staff assigned to evening shift.

Pay Range: $37.40-$50.00

Starting Rate: Based on experience
