The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The Technician will be hired and/or directly supervised by a Rehabilitation Therapist III or IV. The Therapist Technician's primary responsibilities include assist the habilitation/rehabilitation staff in providing assistance to individuals for an assigned therapeutic specialty, (e.g., OT, PT, Speech, and Audiology) Work involves assisting with services as directed by assigned clinical therapist. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Prepares materials for assessments based on prior assessments and provides assistance to consumers through hands-on methods and direct contact as indicated by the OT/PT/SLP/Audiologist. 60%
Completes observation notes. 5%
Collects data related to treatment plans as instructed. 10%
Assists with staff training for equipment/Hab Therapy Programs. 10%
Work with Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to impart information as directed and to monitor program compliance and use and repair of equipment for their assigned discipline. 10%
Maintains current skills in relation to assigned responsibilities. 5%
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
• Some knowledge of therapeutic methods and techniques in the rehabilitation area of specialization for developmental disabilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Experience in the use of equipment, tools, and materials used in OT, PT, Speech, Audiology,
• Ability in written and oral communication.
• Ability to collect data collection for assigned therapeutic specialty (e.g. Audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, Speech Therapy).
• Ability to utilize personal computers and relevant software.
• General knowledge of ICF-IID regulations and State Supported Living Center policies and procedures is preferred.
• Physical requirements are the same as those for direct contact staff positions.
• Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
Experience in therapeutic work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may substitute for one another. Valid Texas Driver's License.
Initial Screening Criteria:
Experience in providing assistance to therapists for a therapeutic specialty (i.e. Audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or speech therapy).
Experience in the provision of active treatment.
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
