Tetra Tech is committed to hiring the best talent and fostering professional growth. We are seeking a Solar Electrical Engineer to join our renewable energy team. With decades of national experience, Tetra Tech offers a wealth of technical expertise and a strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulations.

 

As a key member of our consulting team, you will evaluate project needs and provide innovative solutions to support power generation projects. Your primary responsibilities will involve developing conceptual and detailed designs for renewable energy projects, technical reviews of project components, and evaluating electrical designs created by others. While the focus is on renewable energy, there is also the opportunity to work on conventional energy projects.

 

Location: Remote or Hybrid (Irvine, Denver, Chicago, Richmond)

 

Your Role:

·         Design utility-scale renewable energy systems, including solar photovoltaics (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

·         Develop conceptual and detailed designs for new solar and BESS projects, including one-line diagrams, equipment layouts, and system performance studies (PVSyst).

·         Prepare solar layouts using PVCase and AutoCAD.

·         Design protection schemes utilizing switches, fuses, breakers, and relays.

·         Assist with the technical requirements of utility interconnection applications.

·         Apply knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) for systems ranging from 480V to 35kV, including relevant building codes, IEEE standards, and state/federal guidelines.

·         Work independently or in teams to deliver projects of varying complexity while exceeding client expectations.

·         Ensure timely completion of deliverables, understand client needs, and approach problems with solution-based methods.

·         Provide support during construction, including reviewing RFIs, construction observation, and client coordination.

·         Apply strong engineering principles, practices, and specifications in renewable energy projects.

·         Support field investigations, including site assessments, measurements, and data collection.

·         Manage multiple projects simultaneously.

 

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with study of power systems

·         Min of 3 years of experience working in electrical design, including design of energy generation projects

·         1 to 2 years of demonstrated renewable energy experience

·         Proficient and literate in engineering analysis and design software including a working knowledge of database programs, GIS, and AutoCAD.

·         Experience with PVSyst and Solar Advisor Model (SAM) solar performance modeling.

·         Use of the National Electric Code (NEC), IEEE, and UL requirements.

·         Demonstrated understanding of utility-scale solar-PV system design using central or string-based inverters.

·         Ability to become a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) within two years.

·         Must pass a pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required

·         Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Experience with power system analysis software like ETAP.

·         Familiarity with HOMER software for microgrid optimizations.

·         Knowledge of DAS, SCADA, and SEL relays is a plus.

 

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $125,000 yr.

 

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
